Teacher Work:
Day 1: Show the slides with videos and activities
Should take 30 minutes
Required - Everything Provided
Day 2: 1.5 hr activities with the STEM Bus and Teachers
Schedule emailed to teacher
Teacher Stays with the students and gets a PD experience while watching their students learn content with the use of technology that they can also check out for their classroom after the bus leaves
Day 3: Post visit feedback form
Also extension activities for small groups, or whole group work
1 Day Unit where the STEM Coaches come to you
Connect your weather unit to a real STEM Career and apply to become a Meteorologist
Teacher Work:
No pre-work required other than your normal unit on weather
Future Forecaster Event:
Students will be on the STEM Bus for 50 minutes for block coding and makey makey activity.
Students will have 50 minutes in the classroom with a STEM Coach learning how to code a robot to avoid weather related hazards on a roadway
1 hour weather experience with Cheir Meteorologist, Justin Logan at the end of the day.
Post Activity: Students make a video and apply to be on the news as an actual meteorologist for the day!
1 Day Unit where the STEM Coaches come to you
Connect your adaptation unit to a real world community service project.
Teacher Work:
No pre-work required other than your normal unit on adaptations
Gearing up for Good experience:
1 hour on the STEM Bus coding and building a bus out of Legos. The bus will need to be modified at the end to pick up a student in a wheelchair. (physical adaptation)
1 hour in the classroom with a STEM Coach using Tinkercad. Students design a name plate for the child who will be recieving the bike. We bring a 3-D printer and we print the winning design.
30 minute bike build with engineer Ben from Bluegrass Ambucs. Ben will bring an Amtryke bike that needs to be built. The build will take place in the cafeteria. The build will be in an assembly line form.
The family will typically come to the school and the students gift the bike to the kid and their family.
