Un-Paid Experiences

If you are choosing to pursue an un-paid internship with one of our partners, please read through the descriptions of each opening below to determine which you think would be the best fit.

Understand that most un-paid positions will give you the greatest amount of experience with their organization. We hope that your placement will involve rotating through the various divisions of their organization so that you get a broad vision of what it takes for that business to run along with the potential jobs they may have.

Description: KY Farm Bureau Insurance is looking for someone to help assist in maintaining our social media pages and to market our business to loan officers, realtors, and financial advisors. This would consist of scheduled lunches, coffee meetings, and occasionally just dropping off bagels, candy, etc. to different offices. This experience would also teach you the basics of insurance and the our industry along with the farm bureau federation.

Description: There are two areas of opportunity at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Equine Assistant - Interns will be responsible for working in barns, cleaning stalls, feeding, bathing, assisting staff with tacking and shows, as well as interacting with visitors

Maintenance Assistant - Interns will be responsible for working with landscaping crews, electrical crews, mechanical maintenance crews, and housekeeping crews to experience every facet of employees it takes to run a Kentucky State Park.

Description: Foodchain, Inc. is a nonprofit working to connect community with fresh food. An internship would involve helping to run our indoor aquaponics farm or our marine shrimp system. It would also include developing educational outreach for our farming and cooking operations, or efforts to improve farm to school successes.

Description: Double Dan Horsemanship offers liberty, colt starting, problem solving, and high level performance training as well as clinics and equine entertainment shows. We are looking for a hard-working, dependable student who is eager to learn and works well as part of our team. This unpaid intern would perform duties such as cleaning stalls, feeding, grooming, facilities maintenance and general care of horses.

Description: Ag. Education Interns will help Mr. Davis in conducting lessons, tutoring small groups, facilitating lessons within small groups and helping with hands on learning in lab situations. The intern will also monitor student development, and help create learning experiences for all students.

Description: Ag. Education Interns will help Mrs. Layne in conducting lessons, tutoring small groups, facilitating lessons within small groups and helping with hands on learning in lab situations.

Positions are only available in the FALL 2021 Semester.

Description: Ag. Education Interns will help Mrs. Bentley in conducting lessons, tutoring small groups, facilitating lessons within small groups and helping with hands on learning in lab situations.

Description: Ag. Education Interns will help Mrs. Wilson in conducting lessons, tutoring small groups, facilitating lessons within small groups and helping with hands on learning in lab situations. The Hayes' AgriScience program focuses on Large Animal & Veterinary Science as well as AgriScience Research.

FCPS Outdoor Classroooms

Bryan Station High School, Russell Cave Elementary, Winburn Middle School, Tates Creek Elementary, Cassidy Elementary, Cardinal Valley Elementary, Coventry Oak Elementary, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Julius Marks Elementary, Arlington Elementary, Henry Clay High School

Description: Interns will be paired with select teachers at their assigned location and will help plan and execute tasks such as: weeding/mulching/watering, general maintenance, planting support, curriculum integration- working with students in small groups in the garden, grant-writing for local spring 2022 garden grants, serve as a liaison with community partners for school garden support, campus tree maintenance (planting/mulching/watering), serve as a student mentor by working with students during winter season (Nov-March).

Description: Pemberton's Greenhouses is a 6th generation family owned business in Lexington, KY that produces annual, seasonal, tropical and perennial plants. We are looking for a self-motivated, quick learner who wants to know more about the horticulture industry. An unpaid intern will rotate through all phases of the business including customer service, plant production and product delivery, working 2-10 hours per week. Specific tasks will depend on the interests and career path of the intern.

LTAC Farm MAnager Intern

Description: LTAC will utilize a responsible senior intern to help care for and manage the 80 acre land lab. Duties will include, but not be limited to: mowing, weed eating, daily checks of livestock animals, keeping records, feeding on-site animals as directed, working in the greenhouses, outdoor classroom, outdoor gardens, and assisting in paperwork and research as needed. The LTAC intern must be reliable and able to work independently. The student chosen for this should be a well-rounded agriculture student since duties will cross all disciplines.
