The Father Dueñas Micronesia Cultural Club (FDMCC) was founded in 2024 by Kobe Miyashita to celebrate and strengthen Micronesian identity at Father Dueñas Memorial School. Our purpose is to promote cultural understanding, build unity among students of all backgrounds, and create opportunities for service and leadership. Although Guam is part of Micronesia, many people are unfamiliar with the traditions, history, and values of our neighboring islands. Through education, cultural exchange, and community outreach, FDMCC brings people together while honoring the heritage of Micronesia.
Throughout the year, the Father Dueñas Micronesia Cultural Club (FDMCC) has actively promoted cultural awareness and brotherhood on and beyond our campus.
On April 20, 2024, our members participated in Micronesian Cultures and Traditions Day at the University of Guam, where we engaged with cultural leaders and performers from across the Pacific. On September 2, 2024, we had the honor of meeting His Excellency Surangel S. Whipps Jr., President of the Republic of Palau, who shared his journey of leadership and his hopes for the Pacific region. Later, on October 10, 2024, representatives from the Federated States of Micronesia Consulate Office visited FDMS to present on FSM history, government, and identity.
The FDMCC started with only 18 members and has since grown into one of the most active cultural groups on campus. We now host educational talks, cultural workshops, and community outreach, with more events planned in the months ahead. Our goal is to celebrate the heritage of Micronesia while building understanding and unity among all students.
Fun fact: Did you know the Federated States of Micronesia is made up of 607 islands and uses the U.S. dollar as its official currency?
Through every event, we encourage our members to discover something new about Micronesia—and carry that knowledge with pride.
The FDMCC logo represents unity among the islands of Micronesia and the cultural identity we proudly carry at Father Dueñas Memorial School. Each part of the logo features a flag that highlights our connection to the region—Guam (top center), CNMI (top left), FSM (top right), Marshall Islands (bottom right), and Palau (bottom left). The world map in the center symbolizes global connection, while the maroon and gold colors honor the proud tradition of FDMS. Together, the logo stands for brotherhood, culture, and leadership.
