Media (A level) - Meet the Team

The Media Studies team are an enthusiastic bunch all with lots of experience and commitment to the subject. We have a diverse range of interests and love getting recommendations from students about film, TV or games you have enjoyed. We love discussing the intricacies of good design, what is trending on Twitter and the political zeitgeist.

Our technicians are experts in media and film technology and love nothing more than discussing the latest equipment on the market. So if you are looking for some advice on how to get that perfect shot or are thinking about a new bit of kit, seek them out and have a chat.

Nicola Franklin

Is the Curriculum Manager for Media Studies A Level and is also the staff liaison for the Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA). Nicola is a self-confessed geek and sci-fi fan. Outside of college Nicola loves doing DIY, crafting and gardening. Nicola is currently obsessed with the books 'Invisible Women' by Caroline Criado Perez and 'The Binding' by B. R. Collins.

Rob Mullins

Is a Subject Tutor for A Level Film Studies and Media Studies. Outside of college, Rob spends most of his time looking after his 6 year old son. In his free-time, Rob enjoys working through the Sight and Sound 'Greatest Films of All Time' list.

Julia Filby

Is a Subject Tutor in A Level Media Studies and a Student Progress Leader. Outside of college Julia loves swimming and Pilates, and is often found trying to find a series or film that she can make her teenage kids watch with her, currently the US Office!

Dan McGrath

Is the Senior Curriculum Manager for Media and Film Studies. Outside of college Dan enjoys reading graphic novels; particularly the work of Joe Sacco and Guy Delisel, indoor climbing and the odd visit to the cinema.

Rachel Beasley

Rachel Beasley is a teacher of A Level Media Studies and CTEC Media. In her spare time, Rachel loves nothing more than going on a run with her 90s dance tunes to listen to. To relax, Rachel enjoys sipping on a latte in front of an episode of the US Office or one of Attenborough's captivating documentaries.

Merina Gurung

Merina teaches A Level Media and CTEC Media. Outside of college Merina loves the song, dance and spectacle of Bollywood, weights training and all things pistachio

Matt Hook

Matt is a Subject Tutor for A Level Media Studies. Outside of college Matt runs a property management company, has 3 young children, is an Aston Villa season ticket holder and has a keen interest in cryptocurrency and the impact of new technologies on society.
