Have you ever wondered why people have different beliefs and values?
Or why some people believe things they see in the media that you know is misinformation or disinformation?
Do you think Media Literacy is an essential life skill that will help you navigate the world with tools to support your ability to question social 'norms', politics and AI?
A Level Media Studies is a Critical Thinking based subject that will give you the opportunity to question everything we take for granted or assume is "common sense". We will engage you in conversations about why social groups get represented differently, why the news is always presented as a 'story' with a side you have to be on, why the media assumes you like certain things just because of your age or gender and how the industry works in an increasingly global context.
We will use a wide range of diverse 'texts' from different countries and time periods, in different genres, from different industries with different target audiences as a doorway to learning how the media is constructed, contextually defined and theoretically debated, and as a way to develop your analytical and evaluative skills. These texts, theories and contextual debates will then support your creative decision making when you are responding to the brief for the production of your NEA.
POLITICS, HISTORY, ENGLISH LITERATURE, ENGLISH LANGUAGE, SOCIOLOGY, PSYCHOLOGY, GRAPHICS, PHOTOGRAPHY
