Behaviour, Rewards and Sanctions
Behaviour, Rewards and Sanctions
Good behaviour on the part of all pupils is essential not only to good order but also to successful learning experiences.
All new staff need to familiarise themselves with our Behaviour, Rewards and Sanctions policy prior to commencing employment at the school. This can be accessed by visiting the Policies section of the main school website.
Rewards and Sanctions
We seek to reward our pupils for a wide range of reasons, from classwork and homework to positive behaviour around school such as helping members of the community. Rewards can take a range of forms such as praise, recognition in assembly or through the awarding of Positives and Commendations. A Positive is our basic unit of reward and is worth one House Point. Commendations are to recognise significant achievements and are worth five House Points. We are always seeking to notice the contributions pupils make, and it is normal for House Points to accrue in their thousands across the whole school by the end of each term. All pupils go to visit their Head of School and then the Head once they reach a certain number of points, to receive further congratulations.
If pupils do not meet the expected standards or are involved in a disciplinary issue, this will be referred to our Sanctions system. The basic unit of a sanction in a Negative. Tutors closely monitor this and will work in conjunction with the Head of School if a pattern of concern is developing. Tutors will get in touch with parents and keep them informed as necessary.
All members of the Farlington community are expected to act considerately and show respect towards each other.
Every pupil must take responsibility for their own actions.
Pupils are expected to make full use of the opportunities available to them. Work should be completed to the highest possible standards and handed in on time.
Pupils are expected to respect the rights and property of others. If they borrow something, they should always ask the owner first and return it as soon as possible.
All pupils should work towards improving the eco status of the school: REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE.
If a pupil knows that he or she will be absent from a lesson due to an Extra-Curricular Activity, they should post a note in advance in the stream of the relevant subject destination on The Learning Platform so that their teacher is aware.
Commitment to teams, clubs and co-curricular activities is important. Attendance at matches/meetings/concerts is expected: if absence is unavoidable, an apology slip should be given to the teacher in charge at least two days in advance.
All pupils should look after school property, and not drop litter anywhere in the buildings or grounds.
For their own safety, pupils must keep within the bounds at all times when on school grounds.
Pupils are expected to suggest and support ways of helping others within and outside the Farlington Community.
Anti-Bullying policy
We do not tolerate bullying of any form at Farlington, and we have strict and clear procedures in place to ensure that any member of staff and all pupils are able to raise and resolve any problems that they are concerned by.
You can view our Anti-Bullying Policy in full by visiting the Policies section of the main school website.
Mobile phones should not be brought to school by Lower School pupils, or those in Years 5 and 6.
Students in Years 7-10, should they bring a phone into school, must hand it in to their Form Tutor at Registration. The Form Tutor will in turn hand all collected phones to Reception for safe-keeping. Phones will then be collected from the Form Tutor by the student before going home.
Year 11 students are not required to hand in their mobile phones if brought to school, but they may not be used during lessons or at break or lunch time without permission of a member of staff. This means that they should be switched off during these times and not able to receive messages of any kind. They are permitted to use them (appropriately!) in the Common Room and Refectory.
Occasionally there may be a good reason for a student to call home and that permission will not unreasonably be withheld. Staff may also allow Year 11 students to switch on their mobile phone to enable them to use the camera function to create evidence of an activity or to photograph a piece of work.
