The Franklin & Marshall field hockey team (8-7, 5-3 CC) begins the final week of the regular season with a pair of Centennial Conference contests as they travel to McDaniel on Wednesday before hosting #5 Johns Hopkins in the season finale.
Last Week
Franklin & Marshall lost their lone game of the week as they fell 2-1 hosting Swarthmore on Wednesday evening. Swarthmore made use of penalty corners to get a goal in each of the third and fourth quarters for a 2-0 lead and time expiring. Caitlin Hoover followed up on a goal-line clearance by the Garnet on a penalty corner to get within a goal with two minutes left, but the Diplomats could not draw level. Hoover continues to lead the team with seven goals this season. Meghan Dole had four saves in the game.
Last Time vs. McDaniel
The Diplomats never looked in doubt as they earned a 5-0 win over the Green Terror at Tylus Field last year, the program's eighth shutout of 2023. Goals from Amelia McCarthy, Sophie Carroll, and Jessica Miller had F&M ahead by three goals at halftime. Carroll and Miller added a goal each early in the third quarter to round out scoring. Darby Klopp had a career-high three assists. Across the hour, F&M outshot McDaniel 20-2 and 10-2 on shots on goal. The win marked Kaitlyn Eager's 100th win as a collegiate head coach.
Last Time vs. Johns Hopkins
F&M fell just short of a positive result against #3 Johns Hopkins last season, as they fell 2-1 in a tightly-contested matchup in Baltimore to conclude the 2023 regular season. On the day, the teams created a similar amount of chances with 10 Diplomats shots and 11 Johns Hopkins shots. The Blue Jays got on the board first with a 23rd minute goal, while Annie Malatesta executed a penalty stroke in the 40th minute to get level. A minute later, Johns Hopkins retook the lead on the counterattack. Dole saved six shots.
McDaniel Team Preview
The Green Terror lost their lone game last week with a 4-0 loss at Haverford on Saturday. Teghen Rieder saved 13 of the 17 shots on goal that she faced which marks a new career-high. Morgan Samira led the team with four shots (all on goal). Rieder is leading the Centennial Conference goalkeepers by averaging 6.60 saves/game. Summer Gregory leads the team in goals (3) and points (7).
Johns Hopkins Team Preview
The #5 Blue Jays suffered their first Centennial Conference loss since the 2018 season as Swarthmore secured a 1-0 overtime win in Baltimore on Saturday afternoon. The streak snapped a 47-game winning streak, which was the longest in Centennial Conference history. The Garnet earned the win on a penalty stroke late in the first overtime. Hopkins had a shot blocked and saved early in the overtime period, while Swarthmore drew their penalty stroke off a penalty corner. Sarah Cooper came into the game and shot inside the right post for the win. Swarthmore held a 8-5 shot advantage, while the Blue Jays' Aubrey Kilgore had five saves in the game. Among Centennial players, Lila Slattery is first in assists (7), tied for second in game-winning goals (4), third in points (29), and fourth in goals (11). In goal, Kilgore is first in goals against average (.749) and tied for second in save percentage (.796).
