The Franklin & Marshall field hockey team (1-5) is set to return home this week following back-to-back road games. The Diplomats will close out non-conference play with a match against Alvernia (3-3) on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. before the first Centennial matchup of the season on Saturday at 12 p.m. against Washington College (3-3).
Last Week
F&M dropped a pair of ranked matchups, falling 2-1 to. No. 9 York and 4-2 to No. 14 Kean. The Diplomats managed to double the number of shots the Spartans took in Wednesday's matchup, but an overtime goal by Katie Martino gave York the win. On Saturday, F&M fell behind 3-0 before a pair of third quarter goals cut the deficit to one. The Diplomats could not complete the comeback, however, losing 4-2 to the Cougars.
Last Time vs. Alvernia
F&M dominated Alvernia in the 2015 season, winning 7-2 over the Golden Wolves. Six different Diplomats scored in the team's route over Alvernia, including a two-goal game by Maria Guarisco. Ashley Gubernick earned her third win of the season by stopping four shots in net. Read the full recap here.
Last Time vs. Washington
In its 11th straight win over the Shorewomen, F&M blanked Washington, 2-0 in October of 2022. Tied 0-0 heading into halftime, Jessica Miller put the Diplomats on the board with a goal in the 39th minute, assisted by Amelia McCarthy. Kat Study then added an insurance goal in 49th minute. Alvernia Team Preview
The Golden Wolves are coming off a 2-1, overtime loss to Stockton. After starting 0-2 to begin the season, Alvernia won three straight, including a 3-0 win over fellow Centennial opponent Haverford. F&M will be the fourth Centennial opponent the Golden Wolves face this season, following Gettysburg, Bryn Mawr and Haverford. Four different players have registered at least two goals for Alvernia this season, led by Olivia Hess who has scored three times.
Washington Team Preview
The Shorewomen started the season 2-0, but have since lost three of their last four contests. Their 1-0 win over Widener the last time out broke a three-game skid, all of which included ranked opponents. While Washington has only scored three total goals this season, first-year Charlotte Schurman has also registered three shutouts in her first six career starts.
