The Risk vs. Protective Factor House of Cards activity helps students explore how protective factors influence health by building a "house" using cards. Each card represents a protective factor, however, when faced with a risk factor students must remove a card, observing how the stability of their "house" is affected. This demonstrates how risk factors can undermine protective factors and destabilize one's overall well-being, emphasizing the importance of strengthening protective factors to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Drug Simulation Game
In Health I, students participated in a Drug Simulation Game to explore how different factors affect decision-making and health outcomes. Each student received three cards—Genetics, Personality, and Life Experiences—which shaped their individual path in the game. They made nine choices, and when a risky decision was made, they rolled a die to see how it impacted their mental or physical health. The game included two real-life case studies and videos to show the real-world effects of substance use. This activity helped students see how personal and environmental factors can influence health and decision-making.
The purpose of the “What’s in the Cup?” vaping demonstration is to educate students about the harmful and often hidden chemicals found in vaping products. Through this hands-on activity, students learn that many of the substances in vape, such as nicotine, heavy metals, and toxic chemicals, can have serious health consequences. By comparing these substances to everyday items they would never willingly ingest, the activity helps students critically evaluate the risks of vaping. This powerful demonstration is designed to dispel myths about vaping being “safe” and to empower students to make informed, health-enhancing decisions.
Global Sex Education & Health Outcomes Activity
In this activity, students explored what sex education looks like in different countries around the world. They researched the types of sex ed programs taught in various regions and analyzed how these approaches relate to teen pregnancy rates and STI statistics. Through this investigation, students gained a deeper understanding of how comprehensive education can impact health outcomes and help inform public policy.

In this lesson, students explore the top 15 birth control methods by examining key factors such as cost, effectiveness, side effects, and whether the method is gender-specific.
