All rising seniors will read two personal essays to prepare them to write college essays in the fall: Junot Díaz's "The Money" and Mariama Lockington's "What A Black Woman...", found at the links below. Then, students should complete this "moments sheet" for each essay. Hard copies of the "moments sheet" may be picked up at Durfee High School upon request. During the first week of school, students will write an essay in class using their notes.

All honors seniors (PROJECT RED & BLACK STUDENTS) must also choose 1 of the following 4 novels to read — whichever looks most exciting!

• The Inexplicable Logic of My Life — Benjamin Alire Sáenz
• The Sun Is Also A Star — Nicola Yoon
• The Perks of Being a Wallflower — Stephen Chbosky
• Scythe — Neal Shusterman
