Emerging Young Artist Showcase 2022

UMASS Dartmouth's Emerging Young Artist Includes Fairhaven Art Students

Each year UMASS Dartmouth's College of Visual and Performing Arts hosts the Emerging Young Artist Showcase, a juried art show highlighting Massachusett's top high school artists.

The University received 656 submissions from high school artists across New Engand, and the CVPA's Dean Lawrence Jenkins selected 178 works for this year's exhibition.

Four art students from Fairhaven High School received acknowledgement in the competition, and one FHSArt student received an honorable mention.

Blue Cottage

Heiman Leung's watercolor painting titled Blue Cottage received an honorable mention in the showcase.

Rainbow

The Emerging Young Artist Showcase included seniors Lilly LaFleur and Paige Bettencourt's music video Rainbow. The film, produced during the height of the 2020 pandemic, illustrates life in quarantine between two different people. The film also demonstrated the resourcefulness of these two students, as both students collaborated on this project remotely.

Halloween

Fairhaven media art student, Weslee Tyler's Halloween, debuted during this year's Emerging Young Artist Showcase. The animated short blends digital animation with film production and tells the story of a lonely ghost seeking refuge while the sunsets. Halloween was produced during 2021, as state leaders lifted COVID-19 restrictions.
