Human Environment Interaction

How do humans depend on, modify or adapt the environment?

This is the connection between physical characteristics and people.

PLAN

DO

Humans depend on, adapt or modify the environment.

Depend: The way people depend on the environment. Eg. The Inuit People in Alaska have homes made from ice, clothes made from animal fur, food from seals or fish.

Adapt: The way people adapt to the environment to fulfill their own needs. Eg. Humans build homes or farms on hills as there is no flat land. They build bridges to get from one place to another. Learn to fish in the rapids of a river.

Modify: The way people change the environment either positively of negatively Eg. Dams, cut down trees to farm, build tunnels in mountains. Pour chemical waste into rivers. Pollute the air with factory emissions.

1. Search through multiple sections of Culturegrams. The main country page, the menus on the left and right.

  • Find two pieces of evidence to show how people in your country depend on, modify or adapt to their environment. Is your evidence and example of depend, adapt or modify? Be specific.

      • Hint: Clothing, food, building materials, industry, where they live, transportation, buildings, farming, dams, canals, roads, mining, cities, towns, sports, money and economy. (some info might also be on the MAIN PAGE)
      • Hint: The Money and Economy section can be a good resource for this section. So can Food. So can the Did You Know section.

  • Fill in the section of your handout
