Step 2 - Claim/Evidence

There are two parts to Step 2 - A, B

A - Making a Claim

B - Finding Supporting Evidence

See below for descriptions of the process for both parts

2A - Take a Stance and Write Your Claim

Now that you have researched and thought about your issue, you need to take a stand on the Essential Question.

Do the benefits of your topic outweigh the environmental and human risks?

Required for Step 2A:

  • Use the graphic organizer to write your Claim and to outline 3 Arguments that will support your position. Make sure your arguments can be supported by the evidence in your research. Make sure one of your arguments relates to one/many animals in the area. (connection to science and ecosystems)

  • Get your Claim and Arguments approved from your teacher BEFORE moving on.

2B - Specific Supporting Evidence for Your Arguments

  • Continue your research to find statistics, facts, studies, personal stories or documented cases that support your arguments.

  • Write each argument on a separate page and add notes to support that argument and your claim.

  • Make sure you use reliable sources. See tutorials in Step 1.

  • Keep Track of your Sources in Noodle Tools. Here are the tutorials.
