Workshop Overview
The interactive workshop is designed for understanding of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and Assessment (A) system. The workshop aims to support the participants in successfully transitioning to and implementing the OBE&A system, ensuring compliance with national and international standards.
Participants will explore the shift from traditional teacher-centred education to student-centred learning, with an emphasis on developing and assessing predefined learning outcomes aligned with program objectives and stakeholder requirements (e.g. industry and alumni), while also gaining hands-on experience in designing outcome-based curricula, understanding key principles of OBE, and developing effective assessment strategies. The workshop aims to equip participants with practical tools to align teaching, learning, and assessment with defined outcomes, ensuring improved student learning, institutional accountability, and compliance with the expectations of accrediting bodies like the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and the National Technology Council (NTC).
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
Explain the principles and importance of OBE in higher education, distinguishing it from traditional education models, and effectively utilizing its terminology and processes
Design clear and measurable learning outcomes at different levels (program, course, and module) that align with desired competencies.
Map learning outcomes to curriculum and assessment using backward design principles, ensuring constructive alignment in teaching practices.
Develop outcome-based assessments, including both formative and summative tools, that accurately measure student achievement of learning outcomes.
Implement active learning strategies that foster student engagement and align with outcome-based teaching practices.
Apply continuous improvement practices, using feedback and data to refine teaching methods, assessments, and curricula in line with OBE standards.
Develop action plans for institutionalizing OBE practices in their respective departments, ensuring alignment with the program’s mission, objectives and learning outcomes and addressing potential challenges and promoting sustainable outcomes.
Demonstrate the expectations of program evaluators, preparing for successful evaluation and accreditation as per guidelines of the accreditation bodies.
Workshop Structure
Interactive Discussions: Participants will engage in conversations about OBE concepts, reflecting on their current teaching practices.
Hands-On Exercises: Practical tasks such as designing learning outcomes, curriculum mapping, and developing assessments will provide real-world applications.
Collaborative Activities: Participants will work in groups to share ideas, critique drafts, and provide feedback on each other’s designs.
Action Planning: The workshop will culminate in participants developing concrete action plans for implementing OBE at their institutions.

Conclusion
This workshop will empower participants to effectively implement OBE in their institutions by providing the knowledge, skills, and strategies to design and assess outcome-driven curricula, fostering a more focused and accountable educational system. It offers practical approaches for aligning programs with OBE&A requirements, ensuring compliance with national and international accreditation standards. By the end, participants will be fully equipped to lead OBE implementation and meet the expectations of stakeholders at their institutions.
