For Companies
Our project has a clear goal: to offer innovative tools for evaluating your and your competitors' Intellectual Property (IP) assets. Our focus will be on developing methods to assess the alignment with Social Development Goals (SDGs) within patent and trademark portfolios, ultimately exploring the implications for performance evaluation.
The detailed objectives are:
Propose a new business model based of the Sustainability Semiotic Diamond (SSD)
Develop robust algorithms based on text analysis that identify patents and trademarks that relate to SDGs.
Validate algorithms in experiments to improve the algorithms' quality and avoid potential misclassifications.
Obtain a detailed description of companies' IPR portfolios: their social orientation (share of SDGs-related IPRs), development over time, and focus on specific SDGs goals.
Examine when and how companies can benefit from a higher SDGs orientation of their IPRs by increasing profit and their improving financial evaluation.
Understand the effectiveness of "social" IPRs in comparison to philanthropic donations
By addressing these objectives, we aim to gain a comprehensive understanding of the competitive landscape with regard to SDG-related IPRs and want to evaluate their benefits for firm performance, financial outcomes, and interaction with philanthropic activities.
