"You've been a great support to me over the past two years."
So says a regular attendee of the coffee morning affectionately known as ‘Friday Friendship’. It meets in the Exwick Parish Hall every Friday during term times 10am to 12 midday. It’s open to everyone in the community to come, have a free cup of coffee and a biscuit, relax and have a friendly chat. Friendships are formed, jokes are shared, and it’s not unknown for the odd game of Dobble to start up.
But this is a coffee morning with a difference. Community Workers Debbie, Harri, and Chris are on hand to give advice. On a typical morning, they’ll speak to someone about accommodation issues, refer another to the Two’s Company befriending scheme, arrange a Foodbank parcel for a needy family, and give energy advice to a struggling single mum. The Community Workers are employed by Exwick Community Church to be there for the Exwick community.
There’s also a Toddler Area with a wide range of toys. A focussed activity each week might include painting, colouring, glueing or even baking. There’s even a bouncy castle, and when the weather permits, toddlers can play in the Jubilee Gardens. One participant said, “Thank you very much for having us at Friday Friendship. I come here with my granddaughter who’s twenty months old and it’s a lovely atmosphere. It’s warm, lots of toys, lots of people and fun things to do. My granddaughter particularly likes the singing at the end.”
One young mum brought her own idea for a craft activity: the children helped make a big tree, drawing round their hands for the leaves. The mum called it Our Family Community Tree because, she said, “We're a big family, a community, aren't we?"
You will always find a warm welcome at Friday Friendship. There is ample free parking at the Hall. Please check our calendar page as dates can vary during school holidays - also check the Friday Friendship Facebook group for announcements.
We look forward to meeting you!
