PACKING FOR BARCELONA

Clothing

• Layers are key. Even in summer, evening breezes off the sea can be cool.

• Comfortable walking shoes. Barcelona involves a LOT of walking. Break them in before you arrive.

• One smart-casual outfit for dinners, events, 

• Swimwear, the beaches are excellent. Pack it even for fall/spring programs.

• A light waterproof jacket or foldable rain layer. Umbrellas are sold everywhere.

• For winter programs: a proper coat, scarves, and warm layers for evenings.

Documents & Money

• Passport (valid for 1+ year) — carry a photocopy separately.

• Student visa (if applicable) — already stamped in your passport.

• Program acceptance letter and insurance certificate (print a copy).

• A debit card with no foreign transaction fees (Charles Schwab, Wise, or Revolut work well).

• Some euros in cash for your first day — airport ATMs charge high fees; use a city ATM instead.

Tech & Practical

• European power adapter (Spain uses Type C/F plugs, 230V/50Hz).

• Unlocked phone — you can get a cheap Spanish SIM card on arrival (Orange, Vodafone, or Yoigo).

• Portable charger / power bank — you’ll be out all day.

• Reusable water bottle — Barcelona tap water is safe to drink.

• Small day backpack for classes and exploring.

Health & Wellbeing

• Any prescription medication — pack more than you need, plus a copy of the prescription in English and Spanish.

• Basic first aid: pain relievers, blister patches, antihistamines. 

Pharmacies (“Farmàcia”, green cross sign) are everywhere and excellent.

What NOT to Bring

• Bulky towels — buy cheap ones at Primark or Tiger for €5–10. Our housing supplies bathroom towels.

• Excessive toiletries — every pharmacy and supermarket has everything you need.

• Too many clothes — Barcelona has great shopping. Leave room in your suitcase.

• Converters for every device — just buy one or two good universal adapter.
