5 Minute Move:

Movement is critical for learning. Get up and start moving!

Hip-Hop: Stand up > Hop 1 time on one foot, then 2 times on the other foot, then 3 times on the first foot and so on until you lose your balance or get too tired to hop.

Symbolic Alphabet: Stand up > Sing the alphabet with names of objects rather than the letters.

Flip your Pen: Stand up > Flip your pen in air for two rotations, catch. Flip pen in air for three rotations, catch. Flip pen in air for four rotations, catch.

Focused Ball Breathing: Stand up > Bring your palms together in front of your chest. Keep your fingertips together as you pull your palms apart, forming a ball with your fingers. Press your fingertips together until you feel the muscles in your hands and arms activating. Now close your eyes and as you breathe in, inflate your ball and as you breathe out, flatten the ball by pushing your palms together. (Then repeat these instructions for 60 seconds).

Activate Your Whole Brain

Doing puzzles can be considered a complete brain exercise since it exercises both the right and left sides. The right is in charge of creativity, emotions and intuitive thinking; and the left is the logical, objective and methodical side.

When you do a puzzle both sides must communicate and work together, increasing cognitive function. The occipital lobe is the area where the brain connects colors and shapes and it is also activated.
