1. Chemical process design and simulation

Different types of new chemical processes are being considered to achieve carbon neutrality.

In HCES, chemical process design for new energy systems is performed using process modeling and simulation software, Aspen Plus.

2. Techno-economic and environmental analysis

Various technologies are being proposed as new clean energy technologies. However, for the technology to be successful and commercialized, it must be economically and environmentally sustainable.

HCES performs comprehensive life cycle techno-economics and environmental analysis on energy technologies using Greet and SimaPRO

3. Artificial Intelligence (AI) on efficient grid operation strategy

As the share of renewables increases, grid instability can become a serious problem.

HCES utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) technology of deep learning and reinforcement learning to explore efficient grid operation strategies integratrating energy storage systems (ESSs).

4. Climate risk analysis and green finance

As carbon neutrality becomes a reality, the importance of green finance is increasing.

HCES studies the transition risk analysis and k-taxonomy application model development to establish green finance in Korea.

5. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element method (FEM) simulation

CFD and FEM modeling and optimal design are essential for efficient energy system design.

HCES performs CFD analysis for various energy systems based on thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and chemical reaction engineering using Comsol Multiphysics.

6. Fundamental research on hydrogen production, storage, and utilization

In order to realize a hydrogen energy society, it is essential to develop key hydrogen energy technologies including hydrogen production, storage, utilization, and manufacturing.

HCES develops whole cycle hydrogen energy technology from materials to electrodes, stacks, reactors and systems.
