What Causes the Film to be So Controversial?

Blazing Saddles is controversial for a number of reasons but is mainly frowned upon due to its use of racial slurs and derogatory language. The film uses slurs against African Americans and other racial groups and the movie was created against racism but was taken the wrong way. The novel All About Me! by the director of the movie Mel Brooks actually speaks on this problem and states how it was made as an anti-racism film and attempted to develop that in a comedic way. Other controversial events of the movie is the stereotypes of homosexuals and jokes on different ethnicities.

Other Mel Brooks Comedies

If you enjoy Blazing Saddles I recommend to watch other comedies by Mel Brooks. A popular film is History of the World Part 1 which explores historic occurrences from events of the Old Testament and progresses through history in a comedic manner. Another classic from Mel Brooks is Young Frankenstein which, similar to Blazing saddles, stars Gene Wilder as Dr. Fredrick Frankenstein. The film was made as a comedy movie with horror elements to it. Out of all of Mel Brooks films, he considers Young Frankenstein as his favorite.
