Overview

Blazing Saddles is a R rated classic, comedic, and controversial wild western style of movie directed by Mel Brooks. Taking place in 1874, the movie begins in a small western town called Rock Ridge which struggles with its large amounts of quicksand. To overcome this struggle, a railroad system is to be put into place which will make Rock Ridge worth thousands of dollars. The territorial attorney general is angered by this move, causing him to send thugs to destroy the town and kill the sheriff. The civilians of Rock Ridge decide that it is mandatory for a new sheriff to be appointed to office for protection, and Governor William J. Le Petomane gets persuaded to determine Bart, an African American, as sheriff. Due to the racial stereotypes of the 19th century, this decision causes a great disturbance to the citizens of Rock Ridge and events that follow increase the comedic value of the movie.
