Each school day, your child should select one activity from the Learning Lotto sheet to complete at home. After finishing the activity, your child will color in the box and fill out one lotto ticket to enter into our Learning Lotto Prize drawing.
In addition, students are required to complete the back of the sheet as part of their regular homework.
The goal of Learning Lotto is to provide fun, meaningful practice at home while encouraging consistency and responsibility. The more activities your child completes, the more opportunities they have to earn tickets and participate in the prize drawing.
Homework will always come home on Mondays and will be due the following Monday. Students receive marks on their report card regarding Homework, so please make it a priority to complete it throughout the school year. Please reach out to your teacher if you have any questions.
Learning high-frequency words is an important step in becoming a confident reader and writer. Because these words appear so often, children need to recognize them quickly and automatically. Many can’t be sounded out, so students learn to read them “by sight.” Knowing these words instantly helps children read more smoothly, understand stories better, and express their ideas clearly in writing.
We have divided these high frequency words into 15 lists, each with 10 words. In order to pass each list, students must correctly recognize 90% of the words (9/10 words). There are 50 words (5 lists) for each trimester. Words will be assessed in a random order. Your child will be assessed one to two times per month.
