Important PSAT Information
Subject: Important Information About the Upcoming PSAT/NMSQT
As part of our college and career readiness efforts in the EVSC, we strive to set all students up for success. That’s why we offer the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) for juniors and sophomores, and the PSAT 8/9 Test for freshmen, on Wednesday, October 22nd, during the regular school day. Results from taking the PSAT/NMSQT can:
Help the school focus classroom instruction and support student growth.
Display a student’s strengths, and what skills they need to work on.
Provide personalized recommendations for AP courses.
Highlight a growing list of careers in the state that connect to their current skills.
Practice and prepare for the SAT.
Potentially enter a student into the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Allow students to access more than $200 million in college scholarships.
The PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 8/9 are administered in a digital format that provides an overall easier testing experience for students.
Watch this video to see what students can expect from the digital PSAT/NMSQT.
On test day, ensure your student:
Arrives before their scheduled testing time (late arrivals may not be tested).
Brings two No. 2 pencils with erasers
Brings an approved calculator (see full approved list here)
Brings their school-issued device fully charged with the charging cable
Turns in any prohibited items (e.g. cell phones, smart watches, or other devices)
Brings any medications (e.g., EpiPens) in a clear bag (stored under their desk)
Students enrolled in satellite programs (Early College, SICTC, Shepard Academy) should report to their assigned test location at New Tech on test day. Satellite students are encouraged to notify their satellite program teachers of their absence in advance, and satellite students are responsible for any class content they may miss due to testing.
Please reach out to Dr. Woodruff (monisha.woodruff@evsck12.com) if you have questions about the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 8/9.
You can find more information about the benefits of taking the PSAT/NMSQT here.
