1. E-books
The first is an easy way to create e-books with PowerPoint or Google Slides. At the end of a school year, an e-book can capture memories or demonstrate learning. This would make an awesome end-of-semester assignment, a fun project students can make for friends, or a thoughtful gift for graduates, sports teams, or club members. This article shows you how to do it.
2. End-of-year Icebreakers
You're going to have some free time, whether it's one of the last few days when nothing much is happening academically, or those extra hours during testing time. If you've never tried my three classroom icebreakers, now would be a great time to check them out. They're not just for the beginning of the year, and students love them. Learn how to play here.
3. A fun review game: Crumple & Shoot
If you have content to review before a test, this simple game is a hit with all ages. Learn how to play here.

Another Classroom Book Donation Arrived 😃 First Come, First Served! 😃—We are so excited to tell you that we have a new book donation! You are welcome to take as many books as they want for your classroom and there are also great books that you can use for instruction!
Your Classroom Management Survey Results are in! —The latest Classroom Management survey results indicate that there is a rise in inappropriate interactions between peers. Keep sharing your expectations for everything and demonstrating what a learning activity looks like and sounds like. Remember that even "Fun Friday Freetime" is still to be a structured time. Students can have choice, but you control the choices and give clear expectations. Here is a link to PBIS World interventions for that specific misbehavior.
Talking out of turn and refusals/avoidance behaviors continue to be the highest need for classroom management. Resource: When Students Won't Stop Talking
For talking out of turn, remember to be consistent; do you want hands raised or can students share more organically? Whatever you choose, keep your expectations the same every time.
With refusals and avoidance, you can use a “broken record technique” by calmly repeating your direction or offer choices, “You can sit in the orange chair or green chair right now.”
You can also remind students that your job is to teach and their job is to learn.
✔ILP— Continue to focus on adding evidence of your growth in the CSTP and discussing this growth with your NETs mentor. Evidence can be seen in your reflection write-up and in a picture, or in a link to documents. You want to be able to look back over time, at your cycles of inquiry, and see the accomplishments you have made and build on your assets. Be sure to overtly connect to the CSTP. This will help you become more aware of your strengths/needs and help you build enduring skills & resilience.
✔NETs Support Opportunities for Temp/Prob Teachers—Being labeled a “temp” teacher can be nerve-racking, so we are offering an optional session for NETs teacher candidates with temporary contracts. We will discuss: What it means to be a “temp” teacher; How to prepare for the future; Ideas for showcasing your strengths and growth in the CSTP; Support around navigating discussions; What you will walk away with from NETs Induction. 💛 Zoom session - March 18th |3:30-4:30

Karen works collaboratively with both veteran and new teachers to support her students' diverse learning needs. Karen is always smiling and brings together both teachers and students at Miller. Students love being in her class and her push in students from Special Ed and SEAs love coming. Karen is a true marigold spreading seeds and bringing sunshine to Miller school. Thank you Karen for making EUSD a happy place for so many!
End of Goal Reflection Samples
Your NETs induction program must ensure that you have opportunities to reflect on your growth in the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) and support you through a mentoring process as you analyze your teaching practice to develop enduring professional skills. In determining your competence for the clear credential recommendation, we must assess your progress towards mastery of the CSTP to support the recommendation for the clear credential after two years of completion. Your documentation of progress must reflect the learning and professional growth goals indicated within the Individualized Learning Plan and demonstrate evidence of the candidate’s successful completion of the activities outlined in the ILP. Prior to recommending a candidate for a Clear Credential, the NETs induction program sponsor (EUSD) and the NETs Induction coordinator (Heather Peterson) must verify that the candidate has satisfactorily completed all program activities and requirements. This verification is based on a review of observed and documented evidence by your NETs Induction leadership team. Your end of ILP goal reflections are important pieces of evidence to substantiate your growth. Overall, the NETs program design serves to strengthen the your professional practice and contribute to the your future retention in the profession. We are here to support and want to see you achieve this success.
Below are three sample reflections that contain rationale and evidence that support growth in the CSTP. We thank three of our teachers this year for agreeing to share their ILP Goal reflections with you.
Week of February 19-23
✔Four-Day Week - We hope you enjoyed your four-day weekend and have a great four-day week!
✔ILP Update: A teacher shared with me their success with their ILP. When asked what made them successful, they said:
Setting aside time to work on it and putting in effort helped me a lot!
Adding in photos - I looked around my classroom and thought about what I am doing to progress. I am becoming more confident and conscious. I see that I have changed over time for the better ...for me and my students. I decided to add in some of what I saw as evidence of my growth.
Taking that reflection time is really valuable. It is especially great talking to mentor about my growth.
✔How is NETs job embedded?
NETs Induction is based on your professional goals to support your continued learning based on the CSTP and to support student success. Job embedded professional learning has a direct link to the goals set by the teacher candidate to impact job performance and student learning.
EUSD generously provides you with a mentor and provides you with opportunity to clear your credential free of charge.
Mentoring meetings can occur during the work day and include collaborative planning, lesson study, mentoring, coaching, peer observations, personal learning networks (PLN), study groups, action research, journaling, and reflective logs (ILP). Because you are a professional, you and your mentor work together to determine the appropriate schedule to best meet both of your needs.
Work hours: EUSD teachers are professional educators and expected to devote at least 40 hours per week on educational related activities. The daily schedule provides 7 hours on campus, excluding lunch. This means there are additional hours that need to be included into your schedule. You are a professional and expected to meet your professional responsibilities inside and outside your on campus hours.
Professional Duties - All employees are required to perform teacher related duties (See EEEA contract pages 16-17) and have adjunct duties. Principals understand that NETs Induction is your adjunct duty. NETs is part of your professional responsibility, but also your own responsibility to clear your credential.

"I Can" Statements
Consider trying This STrategy
Xiomara De La O Hernadez's Kindergarten Class at Felicita shares a strategy called "Window Panes.'' Xiomara learned this strategy at the last PLN PD: Let’s Get Our ELLs Engaged! (Katy Maskiewicz, Tara Colville ). Her students were very engaged, as you can see in the video! This is supporting many of the Standard 2 CSTP! It is exciting to see our new teachers learning from coaches and mentors and then implementing the strategies in the classroom! Keep up the good work and be sure to be proactive by sharing positive videos/pics with your principal.
Upper Grade Sample + Resources
This video shows Heather Peterson's 4th grade students doing "I Can" statements. This was such a powerful strategy for the students because it combines the "I Can" statements and Total Physical Response (TPR).

January Classroom Management Needs Assessment Data
Classroom management is supported by building strong relationships with your students. For more information about how to build relationships, Vanessa will be sharing some great strategies at our 2/5 PLN (Community Building).
Misuse of technology is trending upward. Remember that the iPads are a tool not a toy and, as the teacher, you can control when students have them in their possession. For example, you can require the iPads to be in a “parking lot” as seen in the photo below. You can also have them in students’ backpacks for a specific part of the day. Here is a great blog post on how to mitigate tech misuse.

NETs Marigold: Ray Weagraff
Nominated by NETs Teacher - Kira Anderson
I'd like to nominate Ray Weagraff for a Marigold Award. Being a new teacher on campus was hard, especially starting a month into the school year. Ray made it a point to welcome me to HVMS. He took the time to answer any questions I had and made sure to check up on me in my first few months. The amazing thing is Ray is new to HVMS himself! He has taken this school by storm, involved in the eSports teams and always volunteering to cover for teachers that are out. His students love him as he makes history interesting and accessible. He is a wonderful addition to the district and we are lucky to work with him!
NETs Marigold: Caitlin Hershey
Linda Manessis and Heidi Paxton would like to nominate Caitlin Hershey, who teaches a K/1 Mild/Mod Classroom, for her collaboration with her Regular Ed colleagues Jaquie Mushet and Jolene Holmes for a Marigold Award. During her recent TRIAD, Principal Maria Casey gave kudos to Caitlin for her collaboration and leadership during their weekly Co-Lab time. (TLC) Caitlin has been working with her team to ensure her students are receiving the same rigor as the Regular Ed students and the amazing collaborating is showing up in her data. During her recent Inquiry, Caitlin's scores were similar to her peers in Kinder and because she is setting high expectations, they are being met! Thank you for your dedication to both the littles and your peer teachers! We are proud of the seeds you are spreading!

Marigold Awards
From NETs Mentor, Linda Manessis:
I would like to nominate wheel teachers Arielle Lacob and Hannah Tunnell for their cross curricular thematic work for every lesson. For example, in Art students worked on learning about oil pastels while drawing the solar system and in STEM Students learned about rockets. Arielle and Hannah have collaborated to ensure all of their students at their 3 sites have differentiation, whether that is for behavior, curriculum and or social emotional well being in order to ensure their diverse populations needs are met. They are true Marigolds as they care for their students and their team. They also work closely with the classroom teachers to ensure every student's IEP is followed at all sites and their inclusiveness is apparent in every lesson! Thank you Arielle and Hannah.
Week of January 8-12
Happy NEW YEAR!
WELCOME BACK!
January 9th will be your day one of 2024—a new start!
Reinforce and Review Classroom Norms —After the break it’s a good time to review classroom procedures and routines. Remember to teach social skills directly and explicitly like you teach academics. Practice them in different environments and settings. Procedures and routines will help you:
Maximize instructional time in the classroom
Minimize confusion, disengagement, and inappropriate behaviors
Focus on relationship building
BE PROACTIVE SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE REACTIVE!
You made it to 2024! Now what? It all starts with planning. Let’s talk about some good ideas for moving forward.
First, this is the perfect time to review your expectations and routines with students and support staff, setting it in stone. Anytime you have a long break, students need to get back in touch with the operations of the classroom. Modeling and practice is essential for this. Invest the time in this now and make sure that students engage in these practices exactly the way you have set up. Differentiate as needed. Make sure support staff understand this also as they need to assist in making sure these routines run smoothly and consistently.
Second, work with students to set goals for school. You may also add some areas of interest students have that they want to set goals for. The fresh start is a great time to take the energy students have and help them build success into their lives. Show them they can actively take a role in being successful and take time to celebrate with them!
Finally, focus on making learning fun for students. Seek out new engaging strategies and activities that will bring learning and excitement to students! This generates joy for school and helps students appreciate the structure you have set in place to ensure their success.

A Heartfelt Thanks for the Generous Book Donation — As many of you know we received a book donation and many of you were able to collect some of the books for your own library. ...There are still some books available if you need them!
The books for the NETS teachers were donated by Kyle Moss. Kyle is the Executive Director of Impact for The Church at Rancho Bernardo. Her cousin, Nicole, passed away recently, leaving behind a large collection of books which she had used in her classrooms during her 20 years as a teacher. NETs Reminders & Information
This is the perfect time of the year to review and solidify your learnings by reflecting on your growth. As we approach the new year, you will be reviewing and reflecting on your ILP checkpoints with your mentor and you may think about a mid year reset. This time of the year the following checkpoints should be complete: beginning of the year self assessment, COI 1, colleague observation, mid year survey, and your goals should be established with documented evidence of progress within the CSTP. The following checkpoints should be in process: scheduling your TRIAD(s), beginning to think about COI 2, considering closing and opening new goals, and observig a colleague if you haven't done so already (the mid year survey data shows about half of you need to meet this checkpoint). Looking at and thinking about the questions on the Mentorship Collaborative Conversation (MCC) document can also support reflections and successful completion of the program.
The following article is from Inc. magazine and has some great prompts to support your self reflection on what you want the second half of your school year to look like. They are also great questions to explore with your mentor. Here's a hint - mentors are going through this process as well. January is around the corner and it's a perfect time to reset your teaching year!
10 Questions to Ask Yourself for a Mid-Year Reset - (Inc.)
What's the best thing that has happened to me in each month of this year so far?
What things do you want to stop doing over the next six months?
What habits do I need to establish to reach my goals for the year?
What small actions can I do right now to bring me closer to my goals?
What caused any delays in reaching my goals so far?
Are there any doom pile items I can check off my list right now?
What things am I most grateful for this year so far?
What do I want the rest of the year to feel like?
What have I learned so far this year?
How will I feel at the end of this year if I continue to drift away rather than get closer to accomplishing my goals?
Finding Your Joy —Here are some other thoughts to ponder.
Recognizing and focusing on moments of joy are skills that we can strengthen in order to increase our overall happiness.
Happiness does not require the perfect circumstances or lack of all challenges.
Focusing on joy can help us to be more creative, innovative, cooperative, generous, and resilient.
Think back over this last week - can you think of at least one moment of joy? Take a moment to reflect, identify those moments, and then appreciate them.
Mid-Year Survey Data - Thank you so much for you honest feedback. This is your program your feedback helps to guide your journey. Here are a few graphs from the recent program survey. You input is invaluable and demonstrates that we are meeting CTC induction preconditions and standards. You are appreciated.
Thank you also for your voice. Here are a few comments shared.
I am so thankful for the NETs program and all of the work that each mentor puts into our monthly and weekly meetings! I feel like I have grown so much in the last two years and I definitely credit it to my amazing mentors who have supported me!
I would like to share that the NETs team is amazing and I thank you so much for supporting me in this journey.
I love this program. I love the support and guidance I have been given. I am a very easily overwhelmed person. Yet, from day 1 my stress levels were always lowered.
I just want to say thank you for all you do! You have made me feel welcome and comfortable from the very beginning and I feel extremely lucky to be in a district that has such a passionate, hard-working leader here to support both the mentors and all of us. Your kindness is appreciated!!!
I feel very supported in this program. I'm glad to be doing induction in EUSD.
Thank you so much for everything! Couldn't have asked for a better mentor and support! I will be really sad when I am no longer in this program because the support is just so invaluable. :)

NETs Reminders & Information
Classroom Management Reset - After Thanksgiving break, it's important to recognize the significance of restructuring classroom management to ensure a smooth transition and continued positive learning environments. Here are some key reasons why this is important:
Re-establishing Routines —After an extended break, students may find it challenging to re-adjust to the structure of the classroom. By re-establishing and reinforcing routines, you create a sense of predictability and stability, helping students ease back into the learning environment.
Regaining Focus —By revisiting classroom expectations and refocusing students on their academic goals, you set the tone for a productive and focused learning atmosphere. There may be a need to re-establish classroom rules, consequences, and positive reinforcements.
Addressing Changes in Dynamics —Extended breaks can lead to shifts in student dynamics and relationships. Take the time to observe and understand any changes in group dynamics, friendships, or conflicts that may arise. Addressing these issues promptly can help maintain a positive social environment.
Assessment and Feedback —Use this time to assess students' progress and provide constructive feedback. Identify areas of improvement and celebrate successes. This can motivate students to stay engaged and committed to their academic responsibilities.
Emphasizing Goal Setting —Encourage students to set goals for the remainder of the semester or academic year. This practice helps them develop a sense of purpose and direction, fostering a positive attitude toward learning.
Building a Supportive Community —Strengthen the sense of community within your classroom. Consider team-building activities, class discussions, or collaborative projects to reinforce the idea that everyone plays a crucial role in the learning process.
Communication with Parents —Maintain open lines of communication with parents to ensure they are aware of any changes in classroom management or expectations. Collaboration between teachers and parents can significantly contribute to students' success.
Remember that flexibility is key; be responsive to the needs of your students and be willing to adapt your strategies based on their individual and collective responses. By taking these steps, you can create a positive and effective learning environment for the remainder of the school year.
Open Door Policy - We have a commitment to professionalism and support. We encourage open communication with NETs and provide a variety of avenues for sharing your successes, suggestions, or concerns. Whether you prefer discussing matters with your mentor, engaging with Heather directly, scheduling an appointment with her, or documenting your thoughts in your log, we are dedicated to fostering a transparent and supportive environment to ensure your success. Reach out anytime.
Collaborative Support—Collaborative Support is coming up on 12/6/23. This is a time of support to ensure you are on track for completion and also support routine practices to support you professional growth in the CSTP and long term success as a teacher. During this session you may use the time to work with a mentor or colleagues to collaborate on current program components including your classroom management plan checkpoint, lesson planning, establishing ILP goals, and/or adding ILP activities. There will be a separate room dedicated to focused studying of the RICA for those who have not completed this executive order. You may be invited if you need structured time to maintain your ILP.

Thank you for sharing!
I create i-Ready lesson tracking charts to motivate my students to complete their weekly i-Ready lessons. This is a fun and creative tool that I use to challenge my students to aim high in their scores. The chart is picture that I draw and then within it I create squares students are able to fill in, usually accompanied with a little pun :) Students complete i-Ready lessons during small group time as well as at home. They have a goal to complete three lessons per subject each week.
When a student completes a lesson in class, they ask their table group partner to check to ensure they got a score of 85% or above to which they are able to fill in a piece of our chart. Students are working hard on their skills of Math and Reading and once the entire chart is filled we earn what they chose, usually it is longer Fun Friday time or extra recess.
When a chart gets filled out a new one will be made and I will check student progress that happened during this time. Students are able to take accountability for their learning and they are able to set a goal in lessons for themselves. My students have loved this activity and feel so accomplished when they get to help the entire class get closer to the goal of finishing the chart!
We hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful!
Week of November 13-17
Cycle of Inquiry (COI) —An important part of your ILP is working with your mentor to improve your teaching to better impact student learning using the COI process. Your COI is individualized to best meet the needs of your specific professional practice and is an important activity connected your goals. Everyone's COI varies in content but the structure is the same with a focus on the plan, teach, reflect, apply cycle. Your work with your mentor should leave you with more confidence in your planning and teaching, as well as a stronger sense of your student learning based on the analysis of student data. Reflecting on your growth during this process will reward you in many ways and is good evidence of your CSTP growth!

We are impressed with how some of you have found creative ways to achieve this observation—even during a sub shortage. Don’t worry if you haven’t been able to do this yet. Be sure to talk to your mentor about the options available to support you during this sub crisis.
Principal Meetings—This week I am continuing to meet with principals to discussing your work in NETs Induction and share updates to the NETs Induction Program this year. Your principals are providing input to add to your ILP. I will be adding their feedback to your ILP.
Thanksgiving week is coming soon!—We are so thankful to be working with you and want to share our appreciation for the work that you are doing each and every day with your students. Your efforts are noticed and appreciated! We hope you enjoy this week, knowing you have one week until a much needed break—and enjoy your Thanksgiving week even more! We hope you take time to rest, recharge, and enjoy time with your family and friends during your Thanksgiving week. The 2023-24 Thanksgiving break is scheduled for Monday, November 20, through Friday, November 24. All EUSD schools and the district office will be closed. Friday, November 17, is a minimum day for students.
Classroom Management Reset - After Thanksgiving is the perfect time to reset on your classroom management and shift routines to better suit you and your students learning needs. Week of October 23-27
NETs Reminders & Information
Our favorite professional development opportunity, without fail, is seeing other teachers in action. Listening to another teacher's pacing... seeing the way they manage routines and behavior, along with content delivery, and having engagement strategies modeled is always beneficial. All of those reasons are why it's a built-in component in NETs Induction (checkpoint date is 1/24/24).
There are multiple pathways to achieve this requirement:
use a prep time to observe someone else at your site
use a sub (site sub if you have one, site impact teacher, some principals offer to sub, or arrange with your mentor) to give you the freedom to go see another teacher for a lesson
have a curriculum TOSA (Math, DLP, Science DLP, PBL) demo a lesson for you
ask another teacher to record a lesson for you
ask your mentor to go get video footage from another teacher
access the NETs Colleague Observation Google Classroom for a library of recorded lessons (Google Classroom code nnumtjw)
access Teaching Channel or YouTube to find demonstration lessons (discuss with your mentor beforehand)
Before you observe, you will complete the "Plan" section of your "*2324 NETs Colleague Observation Protocols & Reflection" doc found in your NETs folder. Here is some other important information:
The observation needs to be aligned with at least one of your ILP goals (since this is an activity to help you move closer to meeting the goal). Making this connection is what makes it meaningful.
Please be aware that it takes a bit of planning. Your mentor is here to support you, but keep in mind that the onus is on you to complete this before the checkpoint date. (again, that is 1/24/24...sounds far away, but it'll be here before you know it)
The *2324 NETs Colleague Observation Protocols & Reflection document will be linked twice on your ILP:
as an activity under one or more of your goals
in the beige Checkpoints section
The observation is a GREAT opportunity to develop the "research" section of a COI.
In many cases, this observation can count towards your PD requirement for University Credit!
Please let your mentor know how they can support you with this. We know you will love the learning that comes from the experience!!
Reminder about ILP GOALS - Please let your mentor know if we can share your ILP goals with your principal and if you want me to share anything specific with your principal. One to One meetings will start soon.

NETs Reminders & Information
NETs Checkpoints - By now, you should have a good grasp of the checkpoints (located in the left column of the documents below). Your objective should be to proactively complete these checkpoints either ahead of schedule or by the specified deadline. If, for any reason, you find yourself unable to meet a checkpoint, kindly reach out to Heather Peterson with the necessary details and request an extension. It's crucial to note that the successful completion of all checkpoints is a prerequisite for receiving a NETs letter of completion and/or a CTC credential recommendation. We appreciate your commitment to meeting these induction checkpoints.
NETs Teacher Candidate Weekly Logs: NETs log submissions started on the first Friday following your orientation. Amy Kerby recently sent a message regarding the completion of logs during the initial weeks of September. While it is not mandatory to complete these logs for those two weeks, if you attended any professional development sessions, received assistance from EUSD coaches, or acquired "just in time" support from a NETs mentor during that period, you are encouraged to include these details in your support logs, but again it is not mandatory for those first two weeks.
Do you know about cumulative records? - Now that conferences are over and you are starting to assess for report cards, now is an opportune moment to delve deeper into understanding each of your students. Home language surveys, previous assessment scores, past report card comments, and similar resources can significantly enhance your grasp of each student's background, strengths, and language requirements, ultimately assisting in charting a productive path ahead for each of your students. Additionally, this information in the cumulative record serves as an invaluable resource for the student's subsequent teacher, counselor, or administrator.
Learn more about supporting ELs in EUSD at our upcoming professional development - Since many of the students within EUSD are English Language learners it important to learn strategies to support this diverse group of students comes to us with differing educational backgrounds and different levels of proficiency in English. As such, the district wants to ensure that these English learners receive specialized instruction, integrated and designated English language development or ELD, to support their learning needs. The Escondido Union School District believes that all students can actualize their unlimited potential and you play a key role in this. Supporting ELs in EUSD PD is coming up next week and it’s fantastic opportunity for supporting differentiation ILP goals and developing research-based strategies to support students that are multilingual. NETs Reminders & Information
Good luck with your Parent-Teacher Conferences!—Effective parent-teacher conferences are not only about discussing academic progress but also about building a positive and collaborative relationship with parents or guardians. Be prepared to address concerns and questions, provide actionable feedback, and work together with parents to positively support the student's development and education.
Here are a some resources and tips to help you to prepare for and conduct successful parent conferences:
Local School or District Resources: Check with your school for any specific guidelines, templates, sign-in sheets, or resources they may provide for conducting parent-teacher conferences. Many schools have their own procedures and materials.
Role-Playing and Preparation: Collaborate with your NETs mentor or grade level colleagues to practice conducting mock parent-teacher conferences. This can help you refine your communication skills and feel more confident during the actual meetings.
Focus on Support: Remember that every student is someone's baby.
Translate and Interpretation Services: Ensure that you have access to translation and interpretation services if needed to accommodate non-English-speaking parents. Many schools provide these services to facilitate communication.
Organization: Have your files organized by the conference schedule so that you can easily access information, data, and student work for each student.
Create a Welcoming Room Environment: Stop at your door and take a look around your classroom with fresh eyes. What do you notice? Does anything need to be changed or spruced up? Be sure to place several chairs outside your door.
Did you meet your Site Orientation Checklist checkpoint date? It was due last September 27, 2023 for all Year 1 teachers and for Year 2 teachers that are new to a site.

Checkpoint Date - Site Orientation Checklist—September 27, 2023 for all Year 1 teachers and for Year 2 teachers that are new to a site
Lesson Planning—How is your lesson planning going? Be sure to show your NETs mentor your lesson planning system and make sure you have a day to plan for the next week.Your planning needs to include learning targets/success criteria, student engagement activities, and formative assessments. Your principal expects a focus on learning and not completion of tasks. Be prepared to share your lessons with your principal.
Have your classroom ready to go each afternoon before you leave for the day. This means having your lessons prepared and having materials prepped and laid out for the next day. This will help to ensure a successful learning day for your students, that you have a great teaching day, and it helps a sub if you are out due to an emergency.
Speaking of emergencies, take some time this week to create some emergency sub plans. Have a tub of extra materials copied and ready to go. We can not stress this enough. You will thank yourself later.

Dear NETs teachers,
We hope this message finds you well. We are excited to inform you that the CTC will be conducting a site visit to verify the program components for our EUSD NETs induction program. Your participation in this process is crucial to ensure the success of the EUSD NETs induction program and the induction of new teachers in the future.
As current NETs teachers and upcoming completers, we value your expertise and insight into the induction process. Your input is important and the CTC has requested you be present at an interview that will take place next spring, sometime between Monday, April 29 to Wednesday, May 1, 2024, most likely after school. I will give you specific instructions and details when we get closer to the date. Your interview will most likely be on Monday, April 29th or Tuesday, 30th. During the interviews, the site visit team will be asking questions about various components of the induction program, including mentorship, your ILP, professional development, and support for new teachers. NETs Reminders & Information
Thank you for your attendance at the EUSD CHOICE PD and NETs PLN (& a HUGE thank you to the NETs mentors and EUSD coaches!) - The feedback was amazing and we look forward to seeing you again next month on October 9th.
Lesson Planning—Please share your lesson planning system with your NETs mentor. Your mentor will be taking a picture of your lesson plan as evidence of CSTP 4 and your ongoing lesson planning will become an indicator of progress in this CSTP throughout the year. Reflect on whether you are planning for the next day versus the next week or month and be sure to use curricular maps to support your planning. In addition to your NETs mentor, be sure to reach out to the EUSD coaches for support as well. You might consider utilizing time between parent conferences to accomplish some long term planning.
How are you planning for and using formative assessment data to support effective instruction and student learning? By planning formative assessment opportunities and using evidence of student learning to improve student understanding, you are engaging in a very important teaching and learning cycle. You are helping to support students to become self-directed learners and putting an important emphasis on effective learning in your classroom. Start with the learning objective and assess student understanding of that learning target. This process of teaching, assessing, and learning involves students as partners in the process. Consider building students' skills in peer-assessment and self- assessment (CSTP 5.5). Be sure to discuss your ongoing formative assessment system with your NETs mentor. You will be documenting your planning, teaching, assessing, and reflecting skills in your Cycle of Inquiry (COI).
🖤 Parent Conferences—October 5-6th— Thank you in advance for your efforts to make this experience a positive opportunity for parents to engage as our partners and help establish and maintain ongoing two-way communication. Please read this article by education author, Lisa Westman, for some suggestions for how to create positive conference experiences particularly with concerned parents. Communication is Key —You should discuss expected behaviors with your students...especially if you are working with the elementary Wheel teachers. Also, if you need to communicate with the Wheel teachers you should send them an email, as they will be turning over the classes quickly and there may not be time to discuss behaviors etc. Teachers should be understanding of the kinks being worked out with the Wheel program as challenges may come up along the way. Be sure to check out PBIS World.
Mentor Moment:
A student may need to "hit the pause button" for various reasons. They might feel overwhelmed, have sensory needs, need quiet time away, etc. The goal is for the student to have a break, but it is also important to help the student assimilate back to the group when ready. Here is a list of items to keep at an alternative desk area; you can also use it as reward:
Wiggle cushion (Ask the office manager about purchasing one for your classroom. Usually there is someone in the room that has an IEP or a need for this item.)
Weighted lap pad
Squishy ball
Velcro on the desk. (Put the velcro on a spot the student can rub for sensory. It may soothe, but it is not very distracting for others!)
Books (SEL books on Emotions and Culturally Responsive books can be two of the genres)
Earbuds (for noise sensitivity)
Paper and writing materials
Whiteboard/with pen and eraser
Play dough or kinetic sand
Timer (This is for giving specific amounts of time so students can get back to the group after a set time. You may or may not use this depending on the situation, but this is a good visual strategy for some students.)
Some teachers and students like fidgets, but this may depend on school policy and or your philosophy but they can be added in also.

Important note regarding additional credential requirements: EUSD’s NETs Induction program must have sufficient evidence to grant satisfactory growth in the CSTP and completion of the NETs Induction program requirements as identified during each year of NETs Induction. Failure to complete all induction and additional credential requirements could result in receiving a Notification of Non-Completion Status. On-going communication and evidence of your progress will be imperative for a Year 2 letter of completion and a recommendation for a clear credential.
