Welcome back! I hope all had a fun fall break that included time spent with family and friends. I hung out with this guy and his buddies in the Happiest Place on Earth. I even ran into a few former students while there! But now, back to business. We have just three weeks until winter break and we're going to make the most of it!
Special Guest
Today, a special, magical guest will appear at school, but not for long, because then he embarks on an adventure across the world and will be mailing us packages from his travels to help us learn all about different cultural, (mostly) winter holidays. This is all a surprise to the students, so keep it a secret. I'm sure they'll tell you all about it once they learn about him. We'll talk about maps and family traditions. Which leads us to...
Family Tradition Quilt
Students are coming home with a quilt piece today in their homework folders. Students are to choose a favorite family tradition, whether it be a holiday, a family reunion/trip, birthday, etc, and decorate the quilt piece accordingly.
Due: Thursday, December 18th, or sooner. As soon as they are turned in, students will get to share about their tradition. I'd love to be able to have a few a day to share throughout December.
Directions:
Cut out the quilt square
Write their name in one of the empty side rectangles
Write the title of the family tradition (in their own handwriting)
Draw or include photographs for each of the 4 sections: Activities, Food, Decorations, Other
Write (in their own handwriting) their favorite thing about this tradition
Color or decorate the rest of the quilt square
Students can use photographs, stickers, paraphernalia, etc. to decorate. Be creative!
This is one of the only at home projects we do all year, so please make sure your child takes their time to really make it jazzy and add color. This should be more than just pencil. If you need any materials to help jazz it up, please reach out, I'm happy to send some things home. When I receive them all, I will make a paper class quilt to show off all of our family traditions.
December Special Dress Days
We have many fun special dress days at Greenhills for the month of December. I sent an email with all of the staff dress up days. The kids are welcome to participate in any of them, but we are encouraging the students to dress up with us on the Fridays. View them below in Important Dates and mark your calendars!
I can't wait to see my students back at school today. Have a great week!
See you real soon,
Mrs. Walker
