Russell Stewart was one of the founders of the city of Seminole and its first mayor. (Mayor of Seminole 1970-1971 )
A native of Ohio, he lived in St. Petersburg before moving to Seminole in the early 1960s to direct a new branch of Home Federal Savings and Loan at Park and Seminole boulevards. Shortly after moving to the Seminole community Mr. Steward became the first president of the Seminole Chamber of Commerce and he later donated the property where the Seminole Chamber of Commerce was headquartered on 113th Street.
Russell Steward was a member of the Seminole Kiwanis Club, the St. Petersburg Exchange Club and a past president of the board of directors of AAA Motor Club.
