Charles J.R. Taylor was born in Busby, Scotland in 1898. He served in World War I from 1914 to 1918 and guarded the King’s castle. He lived in Stromness in the Orkney Islands and in Overtrees in Howwood near Johnstone in Scotland.
He married Robina (Bobbie) Bannatyne in 1924. They moved to Bay Ridge Estates in Seminole in 1963 from Rocky River, Ohio. Charles was a signal engineer with the Erie Railroad, retiring after 40 years.
Mr. Taylor was among dignitaries to dedicate Lake Seminole Park in 1968. He was president of the Seminole Council when Seminole became a city in 1970. Charles was named the 7 th Mr. Seminole in 1972. He was asked to be the first mayor of Seminole, but declined having just retired. Charles continued to be very active in civic affairs. He attended Church of the Isles, was a member and president of High Twelve #402 in Seminole, was president of the Boca Ciega Scottish Rite club, very active in the Shriners club and was a 32 nd degree Mason for over 50 years.
