2021 - Lee Walters
2021 - Lee Walters
Lee Walters was named the 2021 Mr. Seminole. Sadly, Mr. Walters passed away on March 15, 2022, at the age of 83 and only a few days prior to the event.
Lee left behind a legacy of 45 years of service to the Seminole community. He spent half his life quietly doing the work he loved - doing for others; no matter how inglorious the task Lee Walters was there to get it done.
Lee and his family moved to Seminole from Michigan in 1977. He was a successful realtor, the owner of Lee Walters and Associates, a luxury real estate firm in the Tampa Bay area.
Walter’s honors and dedicated service are lengthy and quite impressive, to say the least. He was recently honored by his Kiwanis club for 50 years of membership. During that time, he was involved with the creation of Field of Honor, and volunteered his time to read to students at local schools, the Special Olympics, and Horses for Handicapped. He liked teaching children to fish and was a circle K mentor through his club service.
He was an usher at the Oakhurst United Methodist Church where he helped organize Easter Sunrise Service on the banks of Seminole Lake, which included transporting a piano to the event. Further, he was a founding member of the Seminole Tuesday Club and served as the treasurer for more than 30 years.
Those closest to him like a longtime friend and colleague Ken Burke, “Lee’s 45 years of contributing to the Seminole community in both small ways and significant ways, year after year, his life has made Seminole a better place to live. He has touched so many lives through his quiet service. He never asked or wanted the spotlight. He just saw work to be done to make our community work, and he did it.”
Mr. Walters is survived by his wife Joann, daughter LeAnne James , and Linda Jones (Doug), three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
What a tremendous honor to be names the 57th Mr. Seminole by his peers. Your dedication is a testament to all. Hopefully, many who follow will have given as much and want to serve as he did.
