2022 - Thom Barnhorn
Thom was born in St. Louis across the river from Alton, IL where he spent his childhood before moving to Pinellas County finishing his primary education at Dunedin High School. Thom finished his secondary education at St. Petersburg Junior College and University of South Florida with dual degrees in Information System Management and his passion Finance. He also attended the College of Financial Planning earning him the designation of AAMS, Accredited Asset Management Specialist.
After working for several years with a couple of large financial firms, he felt he could best serve his clients by not working under them. Thom chose to open his office in Seminole as an Independent Advisor using LPL, Linsco Private Ledger, as his back office, in 2011 Barnhorn Financial was opened. Until his retirement Dec 31, 2022. Barnhorn Financial actively supported through donations, sponsorships, or participation in many events in the community, Field of Screams, Kid’s Appreciation Day, and Music in the Park to name a few.
Thom and his wife Rayma have supported countless community events. As a volunteer in the community Thom drew the attention of civic leaders and at a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner he was approached and encouraged to run for City Council, this began his second career as a City Councilor in 2006. During his tenure he has served as Vice Mayor and Interim Mayor during Mayor Johnsons term. Through the years he has continued to advocate for the city through multiple committees locally, statewide, and nationally. He also serves on the Regional Planning Council and the Area Agency on Aging Pasco/Pinellas.
Thom and Rayma continue their volunteering and support in the community. They are lifetime members of the Seminole Historical Society and Friends of the Library. Over the years he has been a member of the Greater Seminole Area of Chamber of Commerce and many organizations Kiwanis, Lions, Moose, Elk, Exchange, Civitan and Knights of Columbus serving in various capacities. Thom served as Chairman of the Board for the Lions Eye Institute for Research and Development for 4 years.
