About Our Class

Classroom Management

My goal is to provide the best educational experience for your child and in order to do so I have rules and consequences that need to be followed by all students. In our classroom, I provide a safe environment that praises on positive behavior.

Classroom Rules:

Be Polite

Be listening

Be respectful

Be Honest

Be Responsible

Golden Rule: Treat others the way YOU want to be treated!

Behavior Chart

Displayed in our classroom will be our class

behavior chart. Your child’s magnet

will start on “Ready to Learn” daily.

Throughout the day, your child’s magnet

will move up and down the chart

depending on his/her behavior.

*If a student moves magnet to role model they will receive $5 for that day.

* A daily color coded behavior report will be sent home for you to review, initial and return daily in your child’s daily folder. Notes will be given in the “note section” as needed.

Daily Folders

Students are responsible for bringing Daily Folders to school everyday. The monthly behavior calendar will need to stay in the "return to school pocket. " Notes, flyers, daily class math assignments will go home in the "Keep at Home" pocket. These items can be cleaned out of the folder everyday.

Friday Folders

Each Friday I will send home a “Friday Folder” containing completed student work. Please take time to review and discuss this work with your child. Then sign and return the empty folder on Monday with your child.

Volunteers

I couldn't do my job without you! Be sure to fill out the Volunteer Form located in the back to school night packet so that I can assign volunteers specific days and times. I typically do not start in-class volunteers until after we have established routines in our classroom (about 3-4 weeks). Thank you!

Student Recognition

Each week, a student will be selected as our classroom “Star of the Week.” Their responsibilities will be to complete their “All About Me” poster at home, read the book in the bag, and take good care of our class pet sloth. A letter will go along with the star of the week bag. We choose a new star every Friday. The poster, class pet, and books will be due the following Friday. Thank you in advance for your support in celebrating each “Star” in our class. We usually get through all our Stars of the Week mid-year. At this point, each child gets to be the “Scientist of the Week”. Students will get the opportunity to do a small science experiment and then demonstrate it to the class.

Snack Recess

It is very important that you send a small healthy snack with your child every day. It is a long tiring day and a hungry child does not get much done! Please be sure to label it with your child's name. Snacks should be placed in the black snack bin in the morning before the bell. This saves us a lot of time because children often have trouble distinguishing their snack from their lunch. Thank you!

Book Orders

Scholastic book orders will be sent out every other month in the Friday Folder. The simplest way to order is to order online at clubs2scholastic.com. Remember...the more books you order...the more free books we earn for our classroom!!! Our class online code is MJKCW.

Lunch Number

Your child will be given a lunch number. Please help them memorize their lunch number ASAP. It helps the lunch line move smoothly and quickly if they are prepared! They will be given a note card in their Daily Folder with this number. I suggest keeping it in the Daily Folder and having them practice it a few times while you initial the behavior report until memorized. Thank you!

Absences

School Absences: Should your child become ill, please keep him/her home until he/she is fully recovered. Please try not to have your child miss school for other reasons. Although they are young, first graders develop habits for future years in school. When students are absent for non-illness reasons, your child loses valuable instruction time. Please report your child’s absence to the school office as early as possible.

Birthdays

Birthdays will be acknowledged in the classroom with a birthday song and a trip to the class treasure chest. This is our school policy regarding birthdays. Unfortunately, we are not able recognize birthdays with a treat.
