Hello!
My name is Adriane M. Slaton and I am a biology, environmental science, and chemistry teacher. I have a very diverse teaching history having taught preschool, middle school, high school, community college, and at a four year-university (undergraduate and masters-level courses). As a high school teacher, I have taught biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science (Clemente High School in Chicago and ETHS). University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was home for my undergraduate education (major in biology; minors in chemistry and secondary education) and Michigan State University was my second academic home and where I completed my PhD in Science Education. My dissertation focused on how students learn science more meaningfully through talk, debate, and authentic questioning in the classroom.
As an ETHS alum (class of 1997), I have a great appreciation for the quality education Evanston provides its students. It was incredible place to grow up and I am so honored to have the opportunity to give back to both the school and community that gave me so much. Most students know that I "live" at ETHS-- constantly trying to find new, better ways to enhance our classroom in order to see our world differently through science. I am eager to grow and develop my pedagogy here-- greatly influenced, inspired, and schooled by my amazing students.
I enjoy working out, reading, arguing politics, watching movies, being with friends and family, cleaning (that's embarrassing), hanging with my dog Clark, going to concerts, eating, and outdoor festivals. The rest of my day, I am trying out new technologies, grading, writing curricula, and trying to get my hands on anything I think will work well in the classroom.
Thank you for reading! To my students, I will see you at AM support, in the Academic Support Center, Office Hours, and of course, in class! Parents, guardians, and family members, I look forward to meeting you!
