The fifth annual ESU 5 Regional In-Service took place on November 2nd at Fairbury High School. This year’s theme focused on Mental Health and featured keynote speakers, Margaret Searle and Adam Welcome. Six of the ten districts brought their entire staff to this event.
Margaret Searle has experience in all levels of instructions and administration. She was an advisor to President George H. W. Bush on elementary and secondary education issues. Margaret’s keynote focused on Executive Function.
Adam Welcome has been an elementary educator, principal and Director of Innovation. Adam makes it clear that kids come first and has preached the message of Team Kid for many years. He is also the co-founder of Kids Deserve It with Todd Nesloney and the author of Run Like a Pirate.
ESU 5 Mental Health staff also participated in the event by conducting Mental Health breakout sessions throughout the day as well. Topics included: Self Care for Teachers, Having an ACE up Your Sleeve - Building a Trauma Sensitive School, What Do I Do Now? Practical Behavior Strategies You Can Use Monday Morning and Praise Be to PBIS: Using Praise to Improve Your Secondary Classroom Behavior and Student Engagement.
