This session will lead educators through the process of building a justification for diverse materials selection that can be used when faced with challenges to the materials. Participants will review standards, foundational statements, and selection criteria from professional organizations that can lend support to their choices for including the material. Sample policies and procedures will be provided and participants will be asked, time permitting, to locate their own school/district's policies and procedures to share with the group. Ultimately, the goal of the session is to help educators build a solid foundation of support that will help them if materials are challenged in their classroom, school, or district.
