Contact / Meet the Director

Lauren Ficklin, originally from Westmoreland County, VA, is in her third year of teaching music at Essex High School. Ms. Ficklin is the director of the beginning, advanced, and marching bands, as well as a contemporary rockband, The Chosen Trojans. Ms. Ficklin offers a music appreciation and guitar class for students looking for a non-performance based music study.

Ms. Ficklin graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University in May, 2020 with her Bachelors of Music in Music Education. Ms. Ficklin studied classical saxophone while at Shenandoah and participated in multiple ensembles, including a classical saxophone ensemble which participated in the 2018 World Saxophone Congress in Zagreb, Croatia.

In her free time Ms. Ficklin participates in her local church music ministry by singing in the choir, playing in the handbell choir, and playing guitar in the Praise Band. Ms. Ficklin enjoys learning new instruments, being outside, and spending time with her family, friends and pets.
