Assessment

On this page, I'm first including my colleagues feedback on the course and platform - the one I had asked them to fill in, back in Module 2.

Then, I'll share the google form with their evaluation of the success of the study group as well as data analysis and discussion of the results.

DATA ANALYSIS

Based on what the Study Group shared concerning the EU Academy COURSE, I would bring out the following:

  • All participants mention how important it was to have multiple ways to share info and learn - from videos to text.

  • The Padlets are also considered relevant for the majority for sharing ideas, doubts and to develop other monitoring learning strategies.

  • Some participants also refer to the content structure / organisation and the clear goals for each module, which contribute to provide a clear understanding of the tasks as well as the repetitions that make learning easier. Indeed, we keep doing it for our students (revising, repeating, doing remedial and consolidation work), but it's equally relevant for busy teachers.

  • One participant confesses it is a whole new world and a new experience that leads to constant challenges and some research, which are so important in our daily lives. According to another participant, these courses provide the flexibility to work 24/7, at our own pace, and yet another participant highlights that the course content and its tips are not just for teachers, but also for students.

In what concerns the need for improvement,

  • one participant mentions the use of the English language, most probably, the lack of regular use that has led to her limited proficiency. Unlike this participant, another one points out the use of the English language as a positive and needed challenge. In any case, as all participants have confessed, googling is also free and available 24/7.

  • Another participant suggests "a more relevant follow-up" on the learners' evolution for encouragement, which, I believe, may not be that easy or even viable in MOOCs attended by hundreds of teachers across Europe.

  • Overburdened as teachers usually are with teaching, grading, meetings, and also juggling family lives, we need more time for professional development as well as to explore the myriad of free 20.web tools, which may explain why one participant claims to feel overwhelmed.

As for the EU Academy PLATFORM, one participant admitted that registration was easy, but others shared that the platform is not very intuitive and requires some time to find what they need. Again, as with the previous platform, there are some complaints about the peer assessment - an issue that needs improvement. In other words, it is clearly stated and more than once that the language of communication is English, but some participants are not attentive enough to take that into account and submit their peer reviews in different languages, thus making it impossible for the authors to fully understand and learn from their constructive feedback as it was supposed to. It happened in the past and keeps happening - probably too often - as less considerate colleagues don't read, don't give any feedback or do it in a different language. It was the first time for this colleague as it was her first MOOC, but it also happened to me, again.
