Ohio's Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement references the The Simple View of Reading (Gough & Tunmer, 1986), as a way to understand reading comprehension. There are several other theoretical models that provide understanding about how children learn to read including: The Four-Part Processing Model for Word Recognition (Seidenberg & McClelland, 1989; Moats & Tolman, 2019), Scarborough's Reading Rope (Scarborough, 2001), and Ehri's Four Phases of Word Reading (Ehri, 1996, 2014; Ehri & Snowling, 2004).
