Because there is an increased awareness of autism among the public, earlier identification of children is occurring in schools.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Autism is a disability that can affect how a student communicates, interacts with others, and/or behaves. Students with autism may learn, communicate, or respond to their environment in different ways. A medical diagnosis is not required for a student to receive special education services under the autism category. The school evaluation focuses on the student’s needs, and the evaluation report includes supports for communication, social skills, and positive behavior to help the student succeed in school.
