TEA’s Optional Assessment Programs
Texas Formative Assessment Resource (TFAR) - Administering assessments via TFAR throughout the year to inform instructional choices, student supports, and updates to planning within existing curricular structures.
STAAR Interim Assessments - administering interims at checkpoints during the year to monitor progress, predict summative performance, and identify students for intervention. Assessment windows vary by content. These should not be used if the LEA uses other interims or benchmarks.
Texas Through-year Assessment Pilot (TTAP) - participating districts will meet “At Bat” recommendations through the various progress monitoring opportunities. The TTAP progress monitoring opportunities are intended to replace other benchmark assessments to minimize the disruption to instruction.
Practice and Released Tests
The online practice tests are designed to familiarize students with the online testing environment, the available tools, and the various types of test questions. These tests provide students with an opportunity to interact with the test interface, respond to questions, and locate and use available tools.
The TEA releases previously administered tests for the STAAR, STAAR Alternate 2, and the TELPAS. Some released tests are available in the online testing environment as practice tests, some released tests are available in a printable PDF format, and some are available in both.
Released STAAR 2023 tests are available on the Practice Tests Site. Answer keys, item rationales, and student expectations are available on the STAAR Released Test Questions webpage. Scoring Guides are available on the following webpages: STAAR Reading Language Arts Resources, STAAR Science Resources, and STAAR Social Studies Resources.
There will no longer be pdf versions beginning with Spring 2023 tests.
