Research District Guidelines for Field-Based Experience
Candidate is responsible for checking district website for protocols and contact human resources. Refer to district website. Look for "volunteers with an education preparation program/alternative certification program" field based experience requirements. Each district has different protocols. Make sure you follow those protocols.

Email toppstaff@esc20.net in the subject line type out: Request Letter of Introduction. Inform our team you will be out volunteering at districts to complete FBE requirement. Download and save the letter if you plan on visiting other districts.
10 clock-hours of field-based experience of non-interactive or flexible FBE activities. All field-based experience must have been completed within the last two years from formal admission date.
Flexible Activities Options
· Service as a Teacher of Record
o Provide documentation from public school ISD, or charter school.
· Service as an Educational Aide
o Provide State Board for Educator Certification enlarged screenshot of online certificate.
· Service as a Substitute Teacher
o Provide documentation from public school ISD, or charter school. Documentation must have the name of the public school or charter school name posted on the documentation.
· In-class observations of a Texas-certified teacher
Complete “10 Hours Field Based Experience Log” Page 1 and duplicate Page 1 Attachment for each log entry OR evidence of service record.
25 clock-hours of field-based experience interactive to be completed in an authentic school setting. FBE to be conducted within a public school/charter in the state of Texas. Experience in a TEA-accredited private school is permitted but must be with a teacher certified in the state of Texas.
· To be conducted during the school day and year including summer school. Cannot be professional development, extra-curricular activities, workdays when students are not present, before or after-school childcare or tutoring.
· Activities include: small group instruction, tutoring, presenting whole class instruction, and one-on-one student support, practicing classroom management skills, supporting lead teacher instruction, and coteaching.

Steps to follow when out on campus & completing documentation
After making arrangements with district/campus, arrive early to the campus, remember to take a photo ID with you.
Take the signature sheet with you when visiting the campus to obtain teacher signatures.
Make extra copies of attachment pages for each teacher you support or observe during your experience.
After completing all documentation for handout 2, Scan all documents together and save as one (1) PDF.
