Access to various features in Google Meet are sometimes dependent upon whether your District has the free G Suite for Education or the paid G Suite for Education Enterprise Edition. Google Meet Updates. August 2020 Announcements
Updates on 3/5/2020 from Google's Global Head of Education - including an expansion of Google Meet feature to deliver virtual instruction - including recording capabilities. THESE FEATURES WILL NEED TO BE ENABLED FOR YOUR DOMAIN! Instructions here. The post also has some great student engagement tips from the lens of distance learning. Free access to our advanced Google Meet video-conferencing capabilities to all G Suite for Education customers globally including:
Larger meetings, for up to 250 participants per call
Live streaming for up to 100,000 viewers within a domain
The ability to record meetings and save them to Google Drive
Updates on 3/19/2020 for Google Meet. Be sure to check domain settings. These enhancements will roll out over the next 2-3 weeks.
Teachers will be able to mute student audio
Students will not be able to mute other participant (or teacher) audio
Students will not be able to join or reopen a meeting room without the teacher present
Updates 4/2020 Product formally renamed Google Meet (Hangouts dropped from name)
Access extended until September 2020
Meeting creator can approve requests to join from outside the school domain
Meeting creator can mute or remove participants
