Strategies for success: our multilingual learners deserve it

As the number of multilingual learners continues to grow, teachers must develop the capacity to teach language through content so students can build language proficiency and gain the necessary academic knowledge. But trying to differentiate activities to meet the varying cultural, linguistic, and academic needs of students can be overwhelming. Join us to learn a few classroom activities that can be easily incorporated into existing lessons and make language and content accessible to every learner.

My Students Are Dually-Identified. Now What?

It cannot be in the mind if it has not been in the body first! The more we know, the better we are able to service our students. Let's use evidence-based practices that will ensure we support our students with special needs who are also Emergent Bilinguals.

Diario dúo: A Biliterate Writing Tool to Foster Reflective Metalinguistic Awareness

This session presents a biliterate writing strategy and instructional tool called Diario Duo, which engages young bilingual learners in a reflective process that fosters metalinguistic awareness and cross-language connections through a monthly bilingual journal. This strategy provides an opportunity for students to write about their lives, while capturing a current sample of their writing progress in each language. The Diario Duo showcases students’ writing progress across time and languages providing the opportunity to observe and analyze students' biliteracy development. This presentation will be bilingual.
