Class of 2023
AVID Visits San Diego - Sept 28, 2022
Last Wednesday, our AVID Seniors took the long drive south to San Diego to visit three universities before they begin to fill out their college applications. This is the only group on campus to have had a previous college field trip. During their Freshman year, they were able to visit UC Irvine and CSU Long Beach before the COVID "Spring Shut-Down" occurred. Their Sophomore year was completely online and we still had strict protocols during their first year back as Juniors. So this was a nice "return to normal."
We started the day at Cal State San Marcos. This campus is located near Escondido. It reminded me of Cal State Channel Islands... a small campus tucked between hillsides. Next on the agenda was Cal State San Diego, home of the mighty Aztecs. This campus was much larger, with both classic Californian architecture and newer style buildings, with an emphasis on athletics. You could feel the electricity on campus.
Due to an unplanned issue, we had to scrap the last campus, University of San Diego, located just above Sea World. All in all, it was really nice to have our AVID College Field Trips back up and running. And hopefully we will get the timing right next year and finish the trip with all three locations.
