Polyphony Lit Magazine

Polyphony Lit invites submissions of poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction from high school students (or equivalent) worldwide. Students may submit for publication in their annual volume, and/or one of three annual writing contests.

Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans

The AOP is now entering its 24th year and is dedicated to nurturing the beauty, self-expression, and fun of poetry in young writers. Our publications are a forum for young writers where they see their work and the work of other young poets published in an actual book.

Blue Marble Review
Submission Window:  Year Round

Blue Marble Review is a quarterly online literary journal showcasing the creative work of young writers ages  13-22. We welcome poetry, fiction, personal essays, travel stories, and opinion pieces as well as art and photography. The goal of our journal is to assemble in each issue, a broad range of voices, perspectives, and life experiences.


Bluefire $1000 for 1000 Words Writing Contest
Submission Window: December 1 - February 1  (specific deadline dates may vary by year)

Bluefire is an annual literary journal published by The Leyla Beban Young Authors Foundation. The stories published in Bluefire come from the “$1000 for 1000 Words” fiction writing contest, which runs every year starting in the Fall and running through February 1st.

Buttered Toast
Submission Deadline:   December 20, 2022  (specific deadline date may vary by year)
An annual journal by Toad Hall Editions for young writers up to 18 years old.  Issue #2 Theme: Lost and Found. What have you lost in your life, and what have you found? Have you found something by losing something else? Have you ever been lost, felt lost, lost something or someone important to you? Have you found something real or something imaginary or intangible?
We are also holding a call for cover art! Submit your artwork relating to this issue’s theme.


Connecticut Student Writers Magazine

A popular avenue for student writing sponsored by the Connecticut Writing Project (CWP) is the Connecticut Student Writers, a magazine established in 1987 by the CWP to honor excellence in writing by students from kindergarten through high school.  Currently accepting poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and art submissions.

Hanging Loose Magazine

Submission Window:  Year Round

Since 1968, every issue of Hanging Loose has had a section of high school writing, and they are always looking for new writers of poetry and short stories.


Hypernova Lit

Submission Window:  Year Round

Hypernova Lit is an online journal dedicated to publishing the writing and visual art of teenagers. We seek to cast light on the brilliant work produced by teenagers. We are deeply committed to honesty and fearlessness in the work we publish, with a particular emphasis on teenagers telling their own difficult truths.


One Teen Story
Submission Deadline:  November  (specific deadline dates may vary by year)

One Teen Story is an award-winning quarterly literary magazine that features the work of today’s best teen writers (ages 13-19).  We are interested in great short stories of any genre about the teen experience—literary, fantasy, sci-fi, love stories, horror, etc.   The winning stories will be published in forthcoming issues of One Teen Story, which will reach over ten thousand readers. The contest winners will receive $500 upon publication and 25 copies of the magazine featuring their work.

Polyphony Lit

Polyphony Lit is an international student-run literary magazine for high-school writers published annually in August and invites submissions of poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction from high school students (or equivalent) worldwide. Students may submit for publication in our annual volume, and/or one of our three annual writing contests.  If selected for publication, your work will be eligible for one of three awards for excellence in writing through the Claudia Ann Seaman Awards, one each in poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction.
Please note that some reading periods may close early if we reach our submission cap, so we recommend submitting early during the reading period.

Questions is the official journal of PLATO (Philosophy Learning & Teaching Organization). It is unique because it publishes the work of K-12 students interested in philosophical issues, including stories, essays, poems, photographs, and drawings. The journal also publishes articles by scholars and teachers, redefined or modified classic thought experiments, transcripts of philosophy discussions, book reviews, and more.

The Apprentice Writer, published by Susquehanna University
Submission Window:  October - February (specific deadline dates may vary by year)

The Apprentice Writer annually features the best writing and illustrations from entries received each year from secondary schools throughout the United States and abroad.  n addition to being published, selected writers will be chosen by a published author to receive the prize of Outstanding Writer or Runner Up in both prose and poetry.
