Our Social Studies programmes cover:

People in society, economy and business
Through Social Studies, children and young people develop their understanding of the world by learning about other people, societies, their beliefs and values.
They also develop their understanding of their environment and how it has been shaped. Educational visits may be arranged to places of interest, such as Vikingar, Amazonia and Stirling Castle.
Members of the local community and business partners are invited into school to add practical and personal contributions and put learning in the context of real life and work during our World of Work week.
We also offer opportunities for all pupils to participate in Enterprise projects, such as our Christmas Fayre initiative. Enterprise encourages all young people to learn and develop in a way that meets their needs and develops skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work.
French
Children at all stages in P1 –P7 are taught French by trained members of the teaching staff, sometimes supported by French language assistants or teaching staff from St Luke’s.
In the early stages, French is introduced using La Jolie Ronde programme with an emphasis on listening and speaking only, to avoid any confusion with English Language learning. Pupils also enjoy singing games. From P3, pupils begin to be introduced to reading and writing. Vocabulary and simple sentences are taught. In P6 and P7, pupils continue to develop oral, reading, listening and writing skills using a structured approach.
Spanish
In primaries 5, 6 and 7 pupils will also learn Spanish. This is part of the Scottish Government’s policy, Language learning in Scotland: A 1 + 2 Approach. This opportunity to develop skills in a second additional language should help pupils to play their full part as global citizens.
