Going Wild...!

On April 27th, we went Off Grid to this fabulous outdoor adventure area! There were so many ways to learn and use our initiative : we built dens; we constructed ball runs;  we explored so many different ways to move our bodies - up, down, over and under; we tested our balance, strength and skills in negotiating obstacles and solving problems. We also used flint and steel to make a fire, where we cooked and ate potato scones...

A big Thank You to our helpers on the day.

"We found sticky willow. It sticks to my scarf... and this furry bit on your coat."

"Look, we found a birds' nest."

"We can slide down or roll down like this."

"Whoa! It's like a slide!"

RME: We have been learning more about Ramadan and the customs and celebration of Eid, which takes place all over the world this month. The children were very interested in the story of Moon's Ramadan. Some of the class volunteered to tell us a lot more about it,  and introduced us to Eid Murabak songs and other traditions, as well as explaining what they will be doing at Eid and what they will wear.
"I will be wearing gold, and I will have gold eyeshadow and lots of rings, and high heels."

We learned about how Ramadan is a month of peace, and of helping  and thinking of others.
"Fasting means that if you are a grown-up and you are not sick, then you don't eat anything or drink anything until the moon comes, then you can eat."

Sharing some of the traditions of Eid.

Making Eid cards, featuring the moon, fawanee lanterns and lights.

"I want to write Happy Eid in gold."

Creating Mehndi Hands designs

"You can have hearts and flowers and swirls and dots."

"This is the Eid song . It goes like this..."

The children sang along to this Eid Murabak song shared with us and also formed a procession around the room.
"I like that song!"

Mosaics:
We are continuing to study different art styles, and this week we are looking at mosaics, including artists like Antoni Gaudi as well as Roman mosaics.

The children mixed up an adhesive using cornflour, water, flour and glue, then spread it on a tile, flattening it down. They then drew their pictures with a stick and decorated them using mosaic tiles, shells , stones and other objects.

"It's really sticky. It needs flour."

"I'm doing a unicorn."

"This is a rainbow."

Using a tissue paper technique.

We've also been trying out different ways of drawing, such as blindfold drawing, drawing under the table, and timed portraits of each other.
