transition Information

Starting Primary 1

P1 Registration

Children who are starting school are normally enrolled or registered  in January.  Advance notice of the actual dates will be placed in the local press and information will be available from nurseries and playgroups. Notice is also given through school newsletters. You must register at your catchment school, even if you intend to make a placing request to another school, educate your child privately or defer your child’s start at school for another year.

You may choose to enrol your son or daughter in either the local denominational or local non-denominational school. This choice will determine the secondary school to which your child will transfer.

You must provide:-

– your child’s birth certificate

– your current child benefit statement

– a copy of your most recent council tax notice

– a copy of your current mortgage statement or a signed and independently witnessed residency/tenant agreement (agreement must be for 1 year or more)

– a copy of your driving license, utility bill or bank statement (transactions within the last 3 months) if you do not receive child benefit

If you have any queries regarding registration, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.  Applications to defer should be completed and sent to the authority as soon as possible to inform places available in both nursery and Primary One for next session.

Starting Primary 1

Starting Primary 1 can be an exciting time for children and parents alike. We realise that the transition between nursery and primary can be very daunting so want to make it as smooth as possible to help support these transitions. Children who have received confirmation of a place at Kirkhill will take part in a variety of transition events before they start school in August. More information about this will be shared by the school.

Primary 7 - high school transitions

We work closely with High Schools to ensure a smooth transition for our learners moving on. Pupils are invited to be involved in a variety of sessions at their High School before they start in August. Our cluster high school is Mearns Castle High School and we work closely with staff from Mearns Castle and our other cluster primary schools to plan activities and share information for our learners.

Transitions throughout school

We realise that throughout a learner's time in Primary School there are many transitions that happen, daily, monthly and every year when they move on to a new stage.
