The fashion and textile industry generates large amounts of carbon dioxide emissions which contribute to the heating up of our planet. We need to switch from fast fashion to the slow fashion of your great-grandparents. In this unit we will look at the effects of textiles on our environment and some of the solutions to making textiles more sustainable. You will be asked to bring in a pair of old socks - from which you will make a sock monkey with lots of personality.
Following on from the sustainable fashion unit, we want to equip you with the skills you need to make basic repairs - perhaps this could mean that you will get a few more months out of the clothing you already own with less need to buy something new. As part of this unit you will make a small wallet for your travel cards and bank cards from scrap fabric. Or, if you prefer, you can mend a piece of your own clothing.
