What is Read Alliance?

Read Alliance is an after-school program designed to strengthen early literacy skills while providing high school students with meaningful, paid work experience. This program pairs high school mentors with 2nd grade students to deliver one-on-one reading support in a structured, education focused environment.

Our high school interns gain valuable skills in leadership, communication, and instruction. At the same time, our second-grade readers benefit from personalized literacy support that enhances their reading fluency, comprehension, and overall academic confidence.

What are the benefits?

Read Alliance gives high school students the chance to earn money, receive school credit, and mentor younger readers. Through 10 paid workshops, they’ll also learn essential life skills like financial literacy and resume writing. Participating in the Read Alliance program offers student interns a valuable opportunity to grow personally, build meaningful connections, and make a lasting contribution to their community.

When does Read Alliance run?

The Read Alliance program runs Tuesday through Thursday from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM. In addition to an intern's regular work schedule, students are required to attend monthly workshops held on select Mondays from September through June.

How can I get documents to Equus?

You are able to send the necessary documents for the student to work (Social Security Card, Working Papers, and an ID) through Remind to Kaylee Grim on Remind. You are also able to upload your I-9 documents through our application if you are a NEW student to the program!
