French Immersion provides students with opportunities to acquire and maintain language skills in French and English. Harry Ainlay has one of the largest French Immersion programs in Western Canada. Here, at Ainlay, we are proud to offer:
all our core subjects in French
DELF, Bilingual certificate (taken in grade 12)
Partial IB in French Immersion
Higher level IB French Language Arts (only one in the province).

Our French Immersion students achieve high levels of proficiency in reading, writing and listening comprehension skills in the French language but also score higher on the English 30-1 diploma than students only taking their courses in English.

All Edmonton Public Schools programming is based on curriculum determined by Alberta Education. Students enrolled in French Immersion will receive the same high-quality education available in all of our programs.
To register in French Immersion at Harry Ainlay High School you must meet the following criteria:
We recommend that students have at least 65% in the following courses but they must be passing ALL courses in order to be accepted:
French Language Arts 9
English Language Arts 9
Sciences 9
Mathématiques 9
Études sociales 9
Living in Edmonton and being a resident student
Currently studying in a French Immersion, late French Immersion or Francophone program.
Register before March 19, 2025 by 4:00 pm.
IF students DO NOT register before the deadline, they will not be accepted into the program.
