Eastglen Parent Association
Eastglen Parent Association
The Eastglen Parent Association is a warm and welcoming group of parents, guardians, and community members working together with the school principal and staff to support and enhance student learning.
We have had an amazing experience at Eastglen High School. The AP program and teachers are engaging, knowledgeable, and truly love what they are teaching. The smaller class sizes facilitate collaboration between students, and with the staff. The school is large enough to have great options and classes available, but small enough to have the “community school” feel.

Chair
The Chair should be someone who can work collaboratively. The Chair keeps regular, ongoing communication with the school principal, their school community, and the parents/caregivers. The Chair encourages others to attend meetings as a way of keeping informed and recognizes the value of a team to support student success.
Vice-Chair
The Chair depends on the Vice-Chair to undertake part of the work.
The Vice-Chair will step in to fulfill the responsibilities of the Chair if needed.
Secretary
The Secretary will act as a recorder at each meeting and ensure minutes are prepared accurately to reflect the directions agreed to at the meeting.
Treasurer
The Treasurer will keep accurate records of all financial transactions and allocated funds. The Treasurer presents financial reports at each meeting, tracks paperwork, and prepares the financial statements for the annual report.
The Parent Association works closely with the school, in particular the Principal and administration team.
Partnerships work!
The Chair and Principal maintain regular and ongoing communication. This relationship of mutual trust and respect must be nurtured, being mindful of common goals for the learning community.

Eastglen students are fortunate to have administration and staff focused on helping them succeed. Students know how to reach out for help, and staff reach out to students needing a bit of guidance as well. Whether it is choosing a class, needing help with a concept, or career planning the students can find a caring, supportive staff member ready to help. Many staff have innovative learning techniques, such as lecture recordings or websites and videos to help students succeed.

Eastglen School is a short walk to a bus route that is convenient for students on the east side. It is a quick bus ride to and from school. The 9am start is great for teens who don't like early mornings. The Eastglen Week at a Glance on SchoolZone is informative and lets parents know what is coming up that week. Most schoolwork can be completed in class, with some additional nightly studying needed in Grade 12 which helps students prepare for the demands of post-secondary.

The Parent Association Meetings (parent council) are a wonderful opportunity to learn more about upcoming plans and projects, celebrate successes and provide feedback. At the high school level parent council is not a lot of work as students plan all the activities and events and run their own fundraisers (other than the casino every two years). The staff and administration make parents feel welcomed, valued and heard, and their enthusiasm and excitement for the school and students is incredible.

There is a great variety of options in Career and Technology Studies and Performing and Visual Arts to suit everyone. The Eastglen Parent Association has proudly contributed to further enhance the student experience by funding some equipment and supplies (such as guitars and equipment for Foods and Esthetics).
